It’s not the sand it’s the water quality that is the problem.

Yes and no..sand can be even more dangerous than the water,it holds the bacteria like a sponge, also in Pattays case when it rains and the sewers overflow( as so many do near the beach) the flood waters run down all the paved roads freely and wash down into the sand( as it is downhill towards beach rd in many places )...its a perferct storm for filty bacteria...but it was amazing 30 years ago.its still ok if you wear your bio suit and steel toes work boots..cheers

They still don't get it!!  sand??  what about water quality???  do they think people are going to come back to sit on clean sand and then be horrified by going in the water.... they're living in gaga land!!

This low season shows how times are changing fast. Much reduced numbers of Westerners, they have plenty of alternives. Who wants to vacation in a country with nonstop negative headlines worldwide on a daily or at least weekly basis? Just talk to business owners and get facts. There is no coming back from this. The magic is gone. Welcome to the Chinese and Indians, it is now... MS>

Cheap sand, swimming in sewage, and being pestered every 2.5 minutes to buy things nobody needs... Sounds like a dream vacation! ?

sounds like Spain

I never thought the magic was there in the first place.  There is now little difference between the so called 'low season' and the so called 'high season'.  Tourists with more money to spend and not dependant on arranged tours like the Chinese will no doubt go somewhere else.  So eventually will expats  without Thai family but wishing to settle down somewhere warm and friendly and increasingly, this isn't  that place.

You must have no idea who is coming here and how many millions more are coming.

This photo is an example of a beach in China.  Pattaya is pristine to them they love it clean and nice in their minds they go back home and brag about how wonderful it is.

Over 35 years ago I remember visiting Jomptien up from the police and Sugar hut about 100 meters was a lovely beach. When Sitting under a massive straw umbrella a police escort arrived with the royal family to bathe, they cordoned off a small  area and spent 2 hours there.   Jomptien had coconut lined beach and buffalo wallowed in ponds on the land opposite the beach.   No hotels just a beach.  Why they did not bathe in Pattaya we know it was dirty then. Near 100% westerners visited, with a few Indian tailors shops.

Where are the sewage filter beds, and who takes away the solids  ???      Can anyone answer this  ??   because the land rises up to hills from the beach.     So similar to most homes who have a sewage well, eventually you have to  have the dilly cart come to suck up and empty your well.

Yes, but most people wouldn't go there either.

yes, remember it well.

Maybe they should assemble a crop of international expert on beaches like they did at the cave.
