If you are house registered in Phuket then you must apply to Phuket Immigration.

Why use an agent ?  Proof of pension (min 65,000 Baht/month) from your home embassy in Thailand or 800,000 baht in Thai bank for at least 2 months (first application), photo of you outside your home, map where your home is, one copy of all pages in passport, registered at your Phuket home in Thailand, and you are good to go. Easy.

Based on the assumption that we are talking about an extension based on retirement, not a retirement visa. Oh, well. I love precise questions. ?

Very true. I did assume a one year extension. However a very long time ago I did convert my multi entry non immigrant O into a retirement extension without leaving Thailand.

There is always one. You all know what is meant by retirement visa. I will be arriving on a tourist visa and because of mobility difficulties, would not want to have to make a trip to Bangkok to certify my income statement, and any other stuff.

So now we are getting more information.  To be honest it would be easier to get the  retirement visa at the Thai embassy in your home country.

If want to change your Tourist Visa to Retirement status then you will need your country embassy in Bangkok to certify your pension. This is not an area I am familiar with but I have read here on the forum that the German Consulate in Phuket can certify for other nationalities.

Entering on a non-immigrant O visa would be easiest, can be converted to extension of stay locally. You will need proof of income or money in the bank for 60 days befor the first extension.

You don't say what your nationality is, but I note you mention Perth in a couple of posts.

If you are Australian, the Phuket Consulate General can certify income statements. No need to go to Bangkok.

Laws can change overnight, some clever people like to be kept up to date regarding retirement visas.

Too late, paid for the tourist visa and booked the flight. Thanks anyway.

Well he is a cleverman hence why he feels the need to be clever, always best to ask first before using the search option.

Attached is a paper I received form Phuket immigration volunteer in the year 2012. It is very old and there are several changes. But it still gives us some advice.
For normal retirement extension, only one copy is required.
For conversion from tourist to retirement, two copies and TM-86 are required.
(I believe "TN86" is a mistype. It must be TM-86.)

Because there are several changes, I think you should do.

1) Please check latest requirement for normal retirement extension. You can get enough information from this forum.

2) Please contact to Phuket immigration volunteer. “Is it possible to convert tourist to retirement here in Phuket? If yes, how many copies, additional TM form?”

(Several years ago, certainly it was yes. But I am not sure for now.)

3) If yes, please convert. At that time, Please confirm when you should visit immigration again for extension. If no, go somewhere out of Thai to get new Non-OA visa or Bangkok for conversion.

4) Finally please make normal retirement extension. After that, just like me, keep doing extension every year.

I am doing my retirement extension all by myself without agent. If you can convert just with two copies and additional TM form, you will not need agent.

That is not what is currently required. Please look at or contact the local office!

What you should know is additional copy and TM form (maybe 86) will be required.

No problem to convert your tourist visa to a non-o visa for retirement purposes at Phuket Immigration.

Would advise to send a email to the immigration volunteers ([email protected]) to get the latest requirements.

No need to use a broker which is a waste of money.

You will need a TM 30 that is current or a copy of the receipt of your last TM 30. Best to bring a new one! I was never asked for one before 2015, but now required for everything it seems. You will need a TM 7 as well, printed on one piece of paper, back and front. If you look at the Phuket Immigration Volunteer website I provided it has most of the current requirements. Those new items include; a photo in front of your house, with the house number printed  on a piece of A12 paper in a 6X4 format in the middle. They may also want a map of where your home is. I used: find my iPhone app and printed a map, which they took! I am not sure if it is in this thread of another, I recently posted fillable PDF form you can fill out and print. Saves a lot of time for the officers as well as yourself. I was in and out in about 15 minutes, but then you need to pick up your passport the following day. New rules!

I was wondering about this aspect of the proof of income letter, one of which I get from the British embassy and one from the NZ embassy, however it entails filling in endless forms, giving out Visa card numbers, sending away the original letters from my governments and so on.

I have heard that there are other consuls/consulates here who will notarise/certify/produce a letter relating to the incomes (provided proof is given) because after all what they are really doing is certifying that the information is true, which is the same as one's own embassy?

I don't mind paying and it is not about this, it's more for convenience so visiting for a couple of hours and paying the necessary would be a bonus.

I have used the search button and can't find what am looking for, and there are some very knowledgeable folk here who may be able to help and save me a lot of time and effort.........so does anyone know if this is true and what consuls/consulates are here in Phuket that could provide this service.

Thinking along those lines perhaps a solicitor who is a Notary Public could do the same?

Maybe contact the Phuket Immigration volunteers and see if they know. I know the US Consulate out reach charges about $50 USD for one and will only do it for US Citizens. Here's a link to the Phuket Immigration Volunteers:  http://piv-phuket.com

They replied promptly (very efficient) and said that the income letters had to be produced by one's own embassy!

That is correct the income letter has be obtained from the countries own embassy or consul.

The German consul can provide sometimes in special circumstances the statement for other countries but only in case the consul of that country on Phuket is not available and the German consul has a agreement with them for this.

They don't do it for countries which does not have a consul on Phuket.

Yes, that's what I thought. Your Government assures your income to the Thai Government by a sworn affidavit. I have had to fly to my embassy in Bangkok before for an income affidavit. It's nice they do an outreach program here to Phuket a few time a year!

"Few times a year". So there may not be an Ozzie consul in Phuket when I need one?

The Australian Consulate-General Phuket is now in residence and is available for witnessing "stat decs".

Make a booking on their website!
