I made a wrong calculation thinking for renewal I need to have the 800k or equivalent in £ in Thai bank for 3 months from when my extension ends,  but I just realised it should be 3 months previous to my renewal application date,....doh,  mixed up a bit... lol

I understand different offices maybe different so for Phuket office how many days before stamp date can I go and apply for renewal, I need the minimum number of days before, so more time for money to be in the account...?

  • Good point Merijn………...   Next time I do my copies for Immigration, I shall draw a big smiley face or put a very large X on the back of them.

  • You just got back from Mars?  There are many posts reporting the use of recycled paper for TM forms by TVFs.

From what you've said you're more likely to have to wait until the last minute to renew. Just don't go past the renewal date or you'll be starting from scratch.

Well,  I didn't say it properly,  I still have time, I was just planning it in my head wrong,  so if I know what is the minimum number of days,  then I can arrange it accordingly...

The day your extension expires. But best allow a day for extra papers they might require.

Vow,  that's great,  I didn't know that , the first time to get the non-o visa had to go 21 days before tourist visa expired , good to know can go for extension a day before expiry,  thanks...

I normally go to Immigration for my renewal early in the morning but it has been suggested to go mid-morning when the rush is over. Any thoughts?

Get there for 8 and be 1st or 2nd, finished soon after 8.30.

I aim for 11.00. Last month in and out 40 minutes. Most of that waiting on the IT process. Given up with with the 09.00 rush years ago. A mug's game.

I usually go to the bank first at 8.30am to get the bank letter and 3-month statement.  Then to Phuket Immigration at about 9am.  Could still get a number for the morning session.  The only hold up is the photo taking after the IOs.

I'm an around 11 am person as well. Combined with renewing in Jul I'm normally in less than 20 minutes.

Hit the bank at 13:00 hrs for the letters. Get to immigration between 13:30 and 14:00. Usually only one person ahead of me.

I've posted this before but post again. Arrive well prepared. Have the TM form computer generated and printed. Have all you copies, maps, photo, financial docs ready and signed. IOs will then know you are an annual regular and give you the Q number without trouble.

last one I did in July got there at 10 am, was out by 10:10

do bank letter day Before

Arrived at 10:55 yesterday, out at 11:30. Not bad. I needed to take one photocopy, though the Frenchman in front of me in the copy queue needed his photo taken. They are obviously not into multitasking as the person manning the office just waited while the Frenchman got himself prepared for his photograph. 20 photocopies could have been taken during this time but no; hanging around doing nothing but waiting with camera in hand was order of the day.

Today it's pick up the passport and re-entry permit day. I bet that takes longer.

Yep! My extension only took maybe 20 minutes from when I arrived until I was handed my receipt and told to come back the next day after 1 PM. It took well over an hour to get my re-entry permit. Now I am not sure if I will even use that re-entry permit as I won't be able to get an income affidavit from the US Embassy when I return in a couple of months. Plane B; a new O-A visa here in the USA. The Thai Embassy accepts my bank account as good, but not Thai Immigration. It would be nice if all the Thai Consulates and Embassies as well as the different Thai Immigration offices could come up with common rules. But like Thai banks, it seems up to the local "manager."

I haven't bothered with a re-entry permit for a couple of years now as I don't plan to travel outside Thailand. if I do have any reason I will get it then. A nice little saving so far.

The reason i didn't get one was precisely the delays compared to the important bit- the Retirement Permit. Mr Happy who does the re-entry permits was quite content sat down reading his paper, knowing there were people waiting (Friday afternoon).  I asked the Vols what I could do but they just shrugged their shoulders- I can understand their frustration at times as well. After 45 minute I walked out, cursing him under my breath.

In the truck on the way home i realised he had saved me a nice bundle of cash so I got a nice bottle of Single malt instead.

Can't say I have every had much delay getting the re-entry permit. This year arrived 13,00 at Phuket Town, get my number, out by 13.20.

Edit -  does 1,000 baht get you "a nice bottle of Single malt". Let me know where that shop is.

Re-entry permit today 30 minutes. Next number in the re-entry permit queue this afternoon, a smile from the lady IO who was doing them today, then a wait for the processing. I do wonder why re-entry permits need to go through the process they do. Has anyone ever been declined? It's the easiest money they make. Personally I'd rather they made the extensions multi-entry but that wold suit me but not those who rarely leave Thailand. But I learnt of their importance the hard way after forgetting to obtain one a couple of years back!

Anyway, all done for another year.

You can get a multi re-entry permit with your extension, but I only need a single and sometimes I don't use it, better to have for 1,000 Baht than not having one! I think the multi re-entry is 3,400 Baht, so that's why I just get the single.

It's 3,600 Baht. Far too expensive unless you are are frequent flyer, I paid multi one year and used twice. Never so stupid again. Buy as I go at 1,000 baht.

Its 3,800 Baht for the multi re-entry.

Has it gone up? No wonder I always got the single entry for 1,000 Baht!

I get a multi. What I was alluding to was the whole re-entry permit process and the necessity for such a permit to exist. If they made gave multiple entries with all extensions of stay and did away with the permit apart from for those on single entry visas then it would make life easier for so many people, including Immigration Officers (though it would have to cost more, of course, for those that rarely leave the country). But, drive-in facilities apart, Immigration don't seem interested in simplifying anything. If anything there are more and more hoops to jump through.

Good for your way of life, probably not for the majority. But now with this whole debacle with the US, UK and Australian embassies not issuing income affidavits, it looks like the Phuket Immigration office won't be getting any money from me anymore! It's $200 US for a multi-entry O-A visa. I have to come back every year any way to California for my wife's US permanent residence card until she get's her citizenship. Yes there is the extra fee of a criminal report. From what I read it's $30, $20 less than the affidavit fee! I used to get one free at the County Courthouse records. Times have changed! Oh and that same stupid medical certificate they've been using for at least the past 13 years I know of. No problem, my doctor asked me a few years ago, what happened that you don't need that form now? He'll love he get's to fill out one again! I pay heath insurance, so I already paid for the office visit and I'll get a check up and blood work while I'm there.

I always get the multiple re-entry permit for a "just in case" situation and feel more comfortable with that, even though I have rarely been out of Thailand more than once in a year.

A peace of mind scenario for me.

Has the Oz embassy changed its mind about certifying documents that prove a persons income,eg pensions, super, after they stop using stat decs? Please only reply if you have spoken with embassy within the last couple of weeks,or else it's just hyperbole.

It has never been a part of the Australian Embassy Notarial Services brief to certify documents that prove a persons income.

It was and still is part of its services to certify that a copy of a document is a true copy of the original.

Your post is therefore obviously just hyperbole.

You don't know the difference between a stat dec and the certification of documents and you have not consulted with Oz embassy. Read my thread Great news for Ozzies. Then go and talk with Oz embassy. End of story. Cleverman does not indulge in hyperbole.

With respect, the consensus from readers of your post "Great news for Ozzies" is that you are a troll who posts misleading and inaccurate information.

Nevertheless I wish you good luck with your new life in Phuket and a Merry Xmas ????
