PHUKET:-- Police are hoping to confirm the identity of a body that washed ashore at Karon Beach in the early hours of this morning (July 27).

The body, dressed in only black swimming shorts was found near in front of the Nong Lake area, near where 33-year-old Indian tourist Gaurav Mann was swept away by a strong rip current on Wednesday (July 25).

Rescue workers who recovered the body today believe that the body had been in the sea for about two days, matching the time that Mr Mann disappeared.

It's a real shame this guy didn't have a gps tracker band on.they could of found his body within 30 minutes and I hope he had medical/travel insurance because we don't want Thailand to foot the bill for this loss.

Yes, maybe they “could have” found him sooner. Or they “could’ve” done a larger search. Very sad for the family. Rest In Peace.

There is a strong undertow at Karon Beach.  Most Thais know this but most tourists don't. Regardless of whether it's the peak or low season, many drown at Karon.

During the rainy season due to the huge waves, there is an even greater chance for people to drown. Karon should be closed during the rainy season but that will never happen.

A lot of mistakes are fighting the current and getting to exhausted. Ride with the current.. And someone will most likely see you too far out.

I lived in Hawaii and witnessed a guy just letting take him out and went lateral to the beach he was rescued by a jet ski.

Only problem with that is there are alot of sharks on the west side of Oahu. The water is green, deep falloff.

Preferred eastern side, blue water and sand bars..

Im not trying to make light of this. But I am honestly surprised that if the croc was at Karon at the same time , that he didnt take to eating some of this poor fellows body.

Just goes to show the alarmism the croc species provokes in the press...

Agreed, been nearly drowned by riptides in Hawaii and Thailand and elsewhere; it's becoming a habit ?
