After the rosy stories comes the reality - new Pattaya beach being washed away

Following a raft of positive stories about the renovation of part of a 2.7 kilometer stretch of the beach at Pattaya, comes the reality.

 

Sophon Cable reported that the 400 million baht of sand is already being washed into the sea.

 

Some 400 meters has been completed of the project and last week the Thai media hailed the success of the venture hailing it as a boon for tourists and vendors. It has widened the beach by 35 meters..

But now Sophon are reporting that it will all be a waste of time if flooding issues in Pattaya are not properly addressed.

 

They showed pictures of sand being washed away and questioned the resort's priorities.

 

They ridiculed the idea that it would last 10 years as the current monsoon season is already doing it hardest to spoil the new beach.

So what's next?  I think there is no answer for Pattaya. It will just fade away and become an old    resort city. that lost its attraction.

No butts binding it together leading to hyper fast erosion into the turd laden sea bring the smokers back?

They'll blame it on the sand being the wrong type (again) rather than blame the same team of 'experts' who've been paid well these past 3-5 years to select the wrong type of (different) sand before.

 

this probably was a follow up, cause and effect, from them doing a fact finding jaunt overseas, to how it is done!

 

and, as bad luck would have had it - they probably chose Surfers Paradise to copy from...

 

 

 

 

and they have literally copied it exactly!

AFAIK, there's never, ever been 35 m of sand at the extreme north end of Pattaya Bay just south of the headland where the Dusit was built. The natural longshore drift in conjunction with that headland just doesn't allow it. The only way they will get sand to stick is build groynes.

well... the ocean, of course! Those waves....

If the Chinese tourists don't need it , then nobody will worry to much.

 

Just looking at that picture and i am no expert but this looks like it has washed from the shore side to offshore. Not the other way round. 

 

Either way both are relatively easy to fix. 

 

Put proper drainage channels for the rain water to run off and into the sea.

 

Dump some rocks a few 100 m out and create and artificial reef to stop wave erosion. 

 

And of course stop dumping turds in the sea. Goes without saying.

Simple to fix. Simply hire a Thai action hero version of King Canute to command the tides to stop. Problem solved, or at least til next tide.

And it has only just begun......be no beach left by end of October!
