Any creditable engineer involved in the restoration of a beach would have know about the preparation so this wouldn't have happened.Of course when you can obtain your credentials through hook or crook this is what you get.

400 million baht... that's a very expensive hole in the foot!!!

And I do not refer to the beach.

I heard that they want to put in a pipe from the road out to sea for storm water drain to stop exactly this kind of run off erosion, but the big hotel next to that corner blocked it, as any pipe that spew murky water, (which although is not sewage) in the water is bound to look bad/worse that what it already is

sadly this attempt may be the last,as now the beach is linned with sand bags that are buried under 12inches of sand,,after the first rain these will be exposed ,but this renewal was only to accommodate the power boats(the tour groups own that run the tours to and from the island and parasial), to keep them a distance from the beach chairs ....pattaya beach is nothing more than a boat launch...it died 5 years ago when the Chinese arrived and this brain fart of a plan is just the death blow..but the good news is ''we have the most honest taxi drivers in the world

The beach from the Baltic coast in Poland looks like a ghastly experience....not my style at all. As for Pattaya and the beach replenishment project, did they even consult a coastal environment expert before launching off into this project as looks like a complete screw-up? Sorry, rhetorical question...hmmm.

An engineering feat to be sure! Oh...I intended to say folly. I guess covering up all of the trash didn't work. Maybe pushing the sand into the sea and covering up some of the sewage will help? 

I guess water is Thailand's achilles heel?

This problem is so easy to solve, and im sure they are already planing. Just buy 400m baht of sand. That will keep everyone happy and build a few more nice homes, and a few more cars.

No worries, Godfather Somchai has these and more covered. Now that he is back out of jail and has his sons working in the Green's "government" all is back to normal in the eastern seaboard.

I'm not sure they are groynes, the rocky structures look more like breakwaters to prevent

storm damage head on. Groynes are designed to stop erosion by longshore drift.

Who builds an elevated beach on sandbags???? And that for 400 million baht!

 

Was it too hard to order a load of rocks or even concrete blocks as foundation?

 

Just have a look at Sentosa Island Singapore, that's how you build beaches...

Of course, it might be entirely intentional, as I'm sure money is to be made each time the sand is replaced. Like the new roads that are laid and have to be re-tarmacked a few weeks later. and then again a few weeks after that. Surely Thais couldn't be so stupid as to not know how to do these jobs properly.

It's a shame the engineering skills here are very poor......but someone made a lot of money...now a new budget for sand replacement on the cards!
