2008 Presidential Candidates

Featured Replies

Let's start with some of the more well known Democrat Party hopefuls .....

Hillary Clinton ... speaking at the Democrat Party winter meetings …

"I want to take those profits and put them into an alternative energy fund that will begin to fund alternative smart energy alternatives that will actually begin to move us toward the direction of independence."

This is probably the scariest comment that I have ever heard from a presidential contender, or serious political leader of any kind. She is advocating that the federal government should steal company profits to use as the government sees fit. If that doesn’t sound dictatorial, tyrannical, anti-free trade and anti-free market, then I’ll eat my hat. She is one scary bitch. What’s next? Robbing Burger King, McDonald and Subway to fund a government-owned chain of health food restaurants? Scary!

John Edwards ....who wants to raise taxes on the rich ….

"We'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," Edwards said on NBC's Meet the Press news program.

Yet another tax-tax, spend-spend demmycrat! Well, guess what John? The rich are already paying the bulk of the US tax burden! From the IRS’s own website, the top 1% of US wage earners pay 34.27% of federal taxes, the top 25% of wage earners pay 83.88% and the top 50% of wage earners pay 96.54%. How about doing something more creative and original like reducing the size of the federal government and regulations instead of expanding it?

Joe Biden … Obama comment

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

I mean really! What a dork! Could anyone have ever made a more callous, arrogant, patronistic and generally stupid statement? What could that kind of statement possibly imply about his opinion of past African-American leaders and Presidential candidates, other than they were un-articulate, not bright, un-clean and not good-looking. Not that those are really important prerequisites for holding that office anyway. This idiot might as well not even run.

John Kerry …. slamming his country yet again …….

“I’ve never seen our country as isolated, as much as a sort of international pariah for a number of reasons as it is today.”

Anyone who makes that kind of statement obviously has no sense of pride in himself, his country or the citizens of the country. He does not deserve to be a Senator. God only knows why the idiotic voters of “Tax-a-chussetts” keep voting him in. Nor does he deserve to be President. Fortunately, that chances of that occurring are like the proverbial snowball’s chance in hel_l. I think that statement sealed the deal.

Barack Obama …. on the minimum wage ….

“In fact, I think that most Americans worry, as I do, that even $7.25 an hour is not enough in many parts of the country where a living wage that would cover housing, schooling and healthcare needs might have to be twice as high or more.”

The fact that he has African-American and Muslim heritage is meaningless, except when it can be exploited to garner votes. This guy is just another east coast liberal elitist (Columbia, Harvard Law, wanna-be career politician) who believes that government knows better how to run peoples’ lives than individual people themselves.

He is just another faker in the making sucking up to union power-brokers for the votes of their members. Ok, Mr. Senator, $5.15 per hour is not adequate for flipping burgers at Mikkie-D’s or bagging groceries at the local market. $7.25 maybe is not either? So what is? How about $25 per hour? Or why not ever $50 per hour?

$5 is too low according to the government? But surely $25 or $50 per hour is too high by anyone’s standards? So why is it the government’s place to judge minimum wage? The fact is that it isn’t, plain pure and simple. Let the free market, employers and employees decide what is best, and make big nanny state government butt out.

Republican hopefuls are next …. unfortunately the picture isn’t much brighter! John McCain? Mitt Romney? Gimme a break!

Shouldn't this be in the jokes thread!?!

Ya, how's Tony doing these days, Sue?

I like the conservative style usually, so I'd go for for McCain; good military service, clean, articulate, measured in his words (usually), good policies and voting records I hear.

But I hear the clamour of a liberal bell ringing amongst the US populace. Crikey, the Dems could vote in Cindy DB Sheehan as their leader and she'd probably win.

Hillary is too grabby, Obama doesn't have a clue (I read both his books; Memories of my Father (gimme a break, I had to walk five miles to school, too, and I'm not even black) and Audacity of Hope, which shows his true colours about opponents and his wishy washy grasp of applying save the poor to real government policies that work.) The prob is, Obama has a cult following that could swing the primaries and he's savvy -- out there promoting his book countrywide so everyone gets to see him close up. Forget Kerry, nobody really likes him or trusts him.

I think Donald Trump should run. Rosie O'Donnell could be his running mate. :o

According to Fox News Hillary tells Porkies..Like Hubby Like Wifie I guess...

Little Donny Tramp sorry Trump no, one continuous Bad Hair Day..

I think that they need is someone with a Little Authority...

I Have as Little Authority as any one, so GUYS VOTE FOR LBD.. :o

If I had to pick, I'd be John McCain.

It's just sad to see that the choices are so limited. Or even the political arena - two sides that both are screwed up in their own unique way.

Who does a freedom-loving, pro-free market, pro-globalisation, pro-choice, pro-separation of church and state, pro-minimalistic government and anti-fascist like me choose?

I think the US should change and have a triumverat like they had in Rome for awhile....then I would suggest that Hillary Clinton, Condoleza Rice, and Rosie O'Donnel should run for it as a team!!!

I haven't looked at anything pertaining to American politics in years, but here's a prediction. The Republican will win. America is aging and more and more people are living on fixed incomes. They have their pension and medical already and won't vote for anyone who will pledge their funds to others requiring same. They'll rationalize they've been through 8 years of Bush, and how could it be worse than that? Probably McCain wins.

Shouldn't this be in the jokes thread!?!

Why?

There's gonna be another President of the Free World - question is...let's hope it ain't the Hildebeast... :o

Democrat leaders agree our soldiers won't be safe until they've pulled back behind a Wall of Safety around the U.S.A. In the years ahead, as world's freedom fighters fill the vacuum created by our strategic pull-back to the States, you - citizens of the no longer imperialist America - can sleep easy. The Democrats in Congress will keep you, your children, and your loved ones safe behind an impenetrable wall of iron, an American Maginot Line of defense that will encircle our country bristling with guns and bombs.

Our hardened fortress will be a powder keg of strength, ready to unleash a terrible storm of proportionate response on any freedom fighters that dare to wake us, the giant, with terrorism, sabotage, or invasion. We will stand tall behind our static defensive lines - and with a well rested army ready to fight anyone foolish enough to challenge our nation with war - we will together endure this challenge to our freedom.

Unfortunately, the only contracting company in the U.S. qualified to build such a massive fortification project is Halliburton Co.

I'm proud to "report for duty! Vote Republican! :o

I am so sick of the whole dog and pony show. I am so sick of card carrying zombies and their propaganda coated tongues. Muppets on both sides of the fence get what they deserve. I don't want your snake oil. The system has failed, let it burn and then at least we will have the gift of hindsight.

Can't we confine the US elections to America? Why does TV have to suffer them?

It's sort of like how the zombies in Night of the Living Dead just keep going.

Whether we like it or not, the USA affects global issues. Best to know what's going on in the tarpile.

You should do what I do. Ignore it. Start by getting rid of your television.

"Oh, my stars, why are people shooting guns and what is that big mushroom cloud and why are people screaming?"

"It's OK, honey, nothing to do with us. Now, let's get the tomatoes in the truck."

Except I wouldn't ask why they were doing it, and if someone was screaming and needed help, I'd probably help them.

Hey Jet, where you from in Canada? I used to live on Salt Spring Islamd there.

I like the flag sticking out of his head.

Very patriotic!

Some of us think there's a chance for an independant candidate.

Of course he'd have to know how to buy votes

post-26562-1170936532_thumb.jpg

He'd have to go that extra mile to attract the ethnic minority vote

post-26562-1170936556_thumb.jpg

He'd have to be as "Rambo" as the neo-cons

post-26562-1170936588_thumb.jpg

He'd have to understand the real meaning of "family"

Send me a ballot, Bt200 and a case of Pinot Grigio, and I'll vote for you FS.

Lannarebirth, you lived on Salt Spring with all those rich poets? Wow. We always lived in trailer parks on the outskirts of derelict towns. But, Divine was our neighbour for a spell.

Wow, talk about misinformation.

Who has been in power the last 8 years and created the whole homeland hysteria? Certainly not democrats.

Hillary is your only chance. Get over it.

Lannarebirth, you lived on Salt Spring with all those rich poets? Wow.

Limosine liberals, yes. I could only stomach it for 18 months before I moved on.

Hey, we have something in common. I used to own some trailer parks.

Sure, so read about it in the news after it happens, because there is not a da mn thing to be done before.

:o I watched Jon Stewart take the P** out of the Democratic candidates "theme songs" and "poor me backgrounds" on the Daily Show. Excellent.

If the link mucks up, look for the Run Dem slot.

Wow, talk about misinformation.

Yeah uh huh right sure .... what about this "misinformation?"

From Der Spiegel interview:

SPIEGEL: Are you still saying that the Holocaust is just "a myth?"

Ahmadinejad: I will only accept something as truth if I am actually convinced of it.

…………

SPIEGEL does not deal only with Germany's past and the Germans' crimes. We're not Israel's uncritical ally in the Palestian conflict. But we want to make one thing very clear: We are critical, we are independent, but we won't simply stand by without protest when the existential right of the state of Israel, where many Holocaust survivors live, is being questioned.

Ahmadinejad: Precisely that is our point. Why should you feel obliged to the Zionists? If there really had been a Holocaust, Israel ought to be located in Europe, not in Palestine.

………

end

……….

From UK Daily Mail August 26, 2006:

…………….

It is the day on which the Prophet Mohammed made his miraculous night flight from Jerusalem to heaven and back on Buraq, the winged horse.

As one Iranian exile told me yesterday: 'The trouble with you secular people is that you don't realise how firmly Ahmadinejad believes - literally - in things like the winged horse. By choosing this date for his decision, he is telling his followers that he is going to obey his religious duty.

'And he believes that his religious duty is to create chaos and bloodshed in the "infidel" world, in order to hasten the return of the Mahdi - the Hidden Imam. So don't expect him to behave, in your eyes, "reasonably".'

……………….

Previous Iranian negotiators from the mullah-mafia elite were corrupt, sinuous and deceitful - but, when necessary, could be pragmatic. You could, to a certain extent, do business with them.

Many of these mullahs would not - despite their rhetoric - welcome the bloody destruction of the Western world, not least because they have stuffed their wealth into secret 'infidel' bank accounts overseas.

The Western-educated nephew of one such wealthy mullah said to me: 'Ahmadinejad's fruitcake theology scares us as much as it should scare you!'

…………………….

The young are not even that interested in religion: a recent poll of young Iranians showed that only 5 per cent watched religious programmes, and only 6 per cent said that they were interested in religion at all.

Seventy per cent of Iranians are under the age of 30, and what they want is to be able to have fun, to travel and, above all, to have jobs.

But the puritanism, corruption, cruelty and incompetence of the regime induces fatalisticdepression and drives all too many of them to drugs: Iran now has (and, surprisingly, has acknowledged) one of the highest drug addiction rates in the world.

……………

end

……………

And more "misinformation" on the present day state of this nation run by this fringe-kook-in-search-of-a-legacy and bolstered by a corrupt theocracy .....

On present day Iran having some of the highest drug addiction rates in the world:
