Passport(or copy) needed to send 90 day immig notification by post

Featured Replies

I have just started doing my 90-day report to immigration (at CW) Bangkok by post. When sending the registered letter to Immigration by post the teller asked me to provide my passport. Luckily i carry a copy of the passport face page with me and that was acceptable.

My question :

Is it required that passports be shown by foreigners to the Post office  (or copy of passport) when sending registered letters? Or does this only apply when sending registered letters to Immigration?

I am not complaining, I am just curious.

A ID of some kind is required for mailing anything at the post office now.

I was asked also the last time I mailed my 90 day report. First time for this, but not a problem. Noticed the clerks were asking Thais for their ID cards.

I've been mailing in my reports from Phra Khanong post office for years and have been asked for any form of ID. Maybe things have changed, so will be forewarned next time.

555.... I didn´t know that I needed my passport or ID when sending a letter so I was really surprised when it happened 1 hour ago at Nana post office. I didn´t have any ID on me so the clerk (luckily) said: "Ok, it´s ok this time. But next time bring ID please."

You learn something new all the time.

By the way, how early can I bring my passport to Immigration for my 90-day check-in?

You can do your 90 day report in person up to 15 days early or 7 days after the report date.

If you had a thai ID that would work too.  Thai's also have to show their ID's when mailing stuff at the post office.

I mailed yesterday in Saraphi Post ( Chiang May) and was not asked for ID.
