DEPUTY PRIME Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who is also defence minister, has made Tourist Police Deputy Chief Surachet Hakphan his assistant spokesman. The appointment has been effective since Sunday.

The deputy PM’s Spokesman Kongcheep Tantrawanich announced the appointment yesterday and said it was done to make his work more efficient.

Surachet will report to him and to Prawit, Kongcheep said, adding that the new assistant spokesman will also help with legal affairs, cooperation with foreign agencies as well as communication with the public.

However, Surachet has said that he has not been given any assignments as yet, though he presumes his new work would involve assisting Kongcheep and providing information about security as well as international and domestic crimes.

He said he also planned to address the loan-shark issue, and would advise debtors to be more self-sufficient and refrain from spending beyond their means. He added that the creditors should not take advantage of others.

The new assistant spokesman also said he would continue working on other issues, such as money-related scams.

Is this an inactive post?

Not sure about inactive, but certainly useless, does he like watches - many watches?

So is he still deputy tourist police chief or now merely an assistant spokesman? If the latter it sounds like a demotion to me.

But not watch-related ones!

They had to shut him up somehow. He did his job so well he was an embarrassment to the rest of the RTP.

It was only a matter of time before he was gagged and chained to someone's desk. Very unfortunate for him it had to be Prawit "Watches" Wongsuwan.

Well, he can keep himself occupied by polishing the boss' watch collection.

How come Big Joke gets the job and not a dead friend?

Now looks like the time for the joker to move into corruption busting as he is now sat next to it?

BJ has in reality done very little that is controversial. His forays are invariably with other arms of the police with credit given. The idea that it is a demotion is simplistic, quite possibly completely wrong and feeds into a narrative that he has been stepping on toes. He is a personal friend of Prawit. To me it looks like a promotion ahead of future entry into mainstream politics.

Me thinks maybe getting to close to uncovering something. so has been sidelined to keep quiet. Couldn't sack him too much of a scandal before the "election" so just move him to a post where Mr. P fatty can keep an eye on him

Perhaps he will keep an eye on his new boss and reveal all. Did anyone see the cow jumping over the moon last night?

Didn't see the cow jumping over the moon, but did see the dish and the spoon.

So if you must have a Rolex buy a copy , there are plenty about to choose from .. Buying a real one is very expensive and way beyond you're budget ..
