Gen. Anantaporn Kanchanarat, minister of Social Development and Human Security, left, greets Farang and Thai attendees at the opening of the Thai Daughter-in-Law, Farang Son-in-Law Clinic Wednesday in Khon Kaen.

KHON KAEN — The first training center to advise and help Thai wives with farang husbands opened Wednesday in Isaan.

The Thai Daughter-in-Law, Farang Son-in-Law Clinic began operating Wednesday afternoon at the Rattanapa Center for Women’s and Family Development in Khon Kaen city, a pilot learning center set up by government social development ministries.

If this is a serious program, with Thai and Farang therapists working together, may be very useful and appropiated. Many Thai-Farang marriages and relationships of every kind are failing for the differences in culture and understandings.

1. Care sick buffaloes first, then your wife is completely fine.

2. Don't care your ATM card is must, then no one will care you.

3. Not only wife, 20 around you is important when you pay for restaurant bill. Make sure you go with suitcase full of money.

4. Keep enough daily allowances for your breakfast/lunch/dinner except beer for yourself. You pay before you eat.

Course is over....?

Each to their own, hope it works out for you.

Hope they are keeping records of attendance to review their success rate against those of us that took the chance and dove into it............

Those old guys in the photo will never be Top Guns, surely?    ?

Don't be mean. There is always Sidegra to make anyone a top gun.  You included when you get to that age.  555

Seriously a lot of predictable humorous???? Thai bashing responses.  I am slightly cynical too but give it a chance!  They seem to be trying to do something and it may help some couples in need of help.  This "being married to a Thai" is not all that easy for some folk's circumstances and relationships with in-laws etc.  Well, not as easy as being a rich?? retired playboy type as we may assume some of these responders may be.  Or perhaps just annual Thai visitors sitting safely in Manchester or Illinois.  Don't shout at me. I don't know which of you are which but I think most guys married here would think that the intention deserves some support and encouragement.

So, my question immediately becomes: "Who are the supposed 'subject matter experts' who will be teaching this and what sort of credentials do they have?"
The article is top-heavy with words such as "scam", "abuse", "trafficked", "prostitution", scam, problems, scam.....which implicitly is saying: "Beware!!!"
What is really being discussed?  "Watch out for bad farangs!  You've been warned?"  Then the article goes on to say that "various women overseas have reported being abused or at risk:  7,457 in Asia, 495 in Europe, 210 in North America, 172 in Oceania, 58 in Africa and 12 in South America."  Hummm ? Strictly speaking 'farangs' only comprise those 495 in Europe and 210 in North America.  The rest are Asian or African - therefore actual 'farangs' only comprise 9% of these 'at risk' scenerios.
Thank you Khon Kan from protecting your daughters from us evil farang.
What's the purpose of this educational seminar?  Looks like a smear campaign geared to frighten Thai women married to foreigners, but we'll just refer to all the potential 'abusers' as Farang!

If this road show comes to our neck of the woods we'll make sure to miss it.  For all the good that we do for our families and communities here in Thailand, we are consistently assailed as always being potentially bad, bad men just one step away from committing a crime.
But their own stats show that abuse is magnitudes more likely to occur in an Asian-Thai relationship.  Perhaps they should rename their seminar: Asean Marriage Training Clinic - How not to be abused by your Asian partner.  It would be a better fit.  And it would get away from farang-bashing.  I find the premise that this clinic to be based on as offensive toward farang, which it's probably meant to be.

What's the above got to do with a Marriage Training center. It sounds like it's training for the Mothers and Fathers of a Thai and Farang married couple?

“Families that encourage their daughters to marry foreigners hope their family’s status will improve,” Leartpanya said. “But many women are scammed; they don’t get the comfortable life they hoped for. Some are abused, prostituted or trafficked.”

Oh that's just rad coming from them. ?

Thai women, scammed, cheated and abused.

What about all the foreigner scammed into buying them houses, scammed into 50 percent shares in a company they put nothing into, only to divorce and get half back. And abused, well, just how many foreigners have fallen off balconies lately. Top of the list would have to be the problems these poor innocents face when confronted by angry husbands because they can't be faithful.

Do thai spouses even understand that word ?

Faithful. ? not sure there's even a Thai translation.

And the Thai Grandmas don't look none too attractive either.  But still so long as they understand their job is to scrub floors,  do the washing and ironing  and understand what it means to keep a house clean to Farang standards,  who cares ?
