Undefeated Thai boxer 'Nong Nina', 11, is fighting for her sick mum

Daily News reported on a tough little primary school Muay Thai fighter who is undefeated and fighting for her half paralyzed mother.

 

Saowanee Phaetsat or Nong Nina, aged 11, is in P6 at Ban Klong Wa school in Hat Yai, Songkhla.

 

Not only is she top of the class she is also a very accomplished boxer. She has had 13 fights in the 42 kilo and other divisions and remains undefeated.

 

All her winnings since the age of five have gone to her mum Soraya Sareng who has paralysis on the right side.

 

Her dad Somporn Phaetsat trains his daughter at the "Liam Thanawat" boxing camp.

 

The camp is owned by the deputy chief of Hat Yai police Maj Gen Thanawat Sengsui.

 

Nong Nina goes by the ring name of "Nina Liam Thanawat" in her fights.

Welfare here amounts to nothing, most people are left to deal with family sickness on their own...

while I don't like the idea of her fighting for money to help her mother I do applaud her spirit!!

First the media write articles about the dangers of boxing for children, followed by articles extolling the selfless virtues of a child boxer.  Please -- make up your minds!  Which is it?

Quite. Welfare in this country is reserved for those that don't need it. Corruption is maybe a better description.

As for regarding the welfare situation (or lack thereof), it reminds me of that point that you can always reasonably judge a society by the way it treats those citizens (and others) that need it's help the most.

I'm under the impression that gambling on boxing isn't illegal, since it is permitted at the major stadiums in Bangkok.
