Motorcycle racer Akarakit “Benz Racing” Worarojcharoendet was sentenced on Friday to eight years in prison for money laundering.

Ratchadapisek Criminal Court acquitted him of abetting drug-related offences.

Akarakit, 21, was found guilty of laundering money by leasing a Bt20-million Lamborghini on behalf of Natthapol Nakkham, an alleged accomplice of jailed Lao drug kingpin Xaysana Keophimpa.

Akarakit, the husband of actress Napapa “Patt” Tantrakul, was arrested based on nearly 30 monetary transactions and his own claim of having a lease contract for the Lamborghini.

It remains unclear whether Akarakit purchased the luxury car for his own use because police found that Natthapol also used the vehicle and was present when it was purchased, as well as giving Akarakit the cash to buy it.

Two other defendants in the case, Sansern Rasanont, 26, and Angsuporn Inna, 30, were found guilty of laundering Natthapol’s drug money and abetting his drug-related offences and each was jailed for 24 years.

Relatives of all three defendants were on hand to hear the verdict on Friday, but Napapa and her baby boy were absent.

Well today is Friday and he is entitled to appeal the sentence which will keep him outside of jail during that process.    Give it just a little more time to see if his lawyers make such an appeal application public.  Only if that does not happen can you gloat about  "He's got money, he'll never go to jail" brigade"  as you stated which any TV Thai apologists would do.

So in essence just wait and see as to whether your statement has any veracity or not.

how come he isn't taking in the sunshine in some foreign land along with all his criminal mates - or does he know something we don't.

If he serves the full 8 years, I'll grow tits and wear a dress!

He will now spend eight years racing... away from sex-starved fellow inmates who intend to pass him around the cell block like a peace pipe.

He will appeal and out free on bail.

Standard procedure here for criminals with money.

He will then postpone the following court date and will frequently cancel it, because of illness or because he has more important things to do. So after eight years he will have his final court hearing. His bail time will then be deducted on the penalty.

So Thaiwrath must be upset that his fanciful thinking that Thais with money really do go to jail  ?

The other newspaper reports he's out on 1 million bail whilst the statutory, time-consuming appeals go in; prior to a one-way ticket out of here.

I think my wife may disagree with that.

'Benz Racing' becomes 'Benz Weeping'...……….don't drop the soap in your new accommodation!

So the pretty high end wife gets a pass? Ah...maybe the police found her envelope more appealing, more accommodating and more satisfying.

He's not in jail and never will be.

I'll share if it helps? I wouldn't  worry too  much I think the chances are "0" but  Ill keep the vaseline on standby just incase!

His sentence was immediately reduced to four years because he cooperated with police. He's out on bail now. The presumption of innocense is gone after being found guilty so why do these guilty folks get out on bail when he's got every reason to flee?

Motorcyclist Akarakit “Benz racing” Worarojcharoendet, who was sentenced earlier on Friday to eight years in prison for money laundering, was granted Bt1-million bail with a condition that he wears an electronic-monitoring device and cannot leave the country without a judge's permission.

Akarakit's mother said it was a one-year-long wait to get her son out of the remand prison so she was happy that he had finally been given bail. Akarakit is to be released on Friday.

His elder brother presented a Bangkok land title deed worth Bt44 million to apply for Akarakit's temporary release.

Earlier today, Ratchadapisek Criminal Court sentenced the 31-year-old Akarakit, the husband of actress Napapa “Patt” Tantrakul, to eight years behind bars for the charge of laundering money linked to drug suspect Natthapol Nakkham but acquitted him of abetting drug-related offences.

Two other defendants in the case, Sansern Rasanont, 26, and Angsuporn Inna, 30, were found guilty of laundering Natthapol’s drug money and abetting his drug-related offences and each was jailed for 24 years. Sansern and Angsuporn also were each fined Bt400,000.

Sansern and Angsuporn did not apply for bail.

I've heard a rumour as soon as he skips the country gets out of prison, he's going to join the Red Bull racing team.

Slap on a couple of years for a tasteless nickname.

And how is that any different to what any of us would try to do?    Or would you willingly give up the fight to stay out of prison and just walk in?

No it's just about a Thaivisa cynic looking for a way to bash Thailand.

In Thailand everyone should serve the full sentence, but of course not in your far superior home country

Ah....I live here...……..stick around a while, you'll get it eventually!

So do I and have done for a while.   I don't get your point either.

Why should Thai prisoners do the full length of their sentence?

In this case he's already done 1 year in remand prison, he also pled guilty to the money laundering charge, so the 8 year sentence is automatically halved for the pleading guilty and the 1 year he's already served will be taken off.   So at the moment he's facing 3 years.
