BANGKOK — At least 40 billion baht will be spent on canvassing and campaigning in the run-up to Election Day, an economist forecast Thursday.

Basing his estimate on spendings tracked on previous election cycles, Thanawat Polwichai of the Thai Chamber of Commerce University told reporters to expect an “intense” campaign season.

The election started a long time ago with the PM throwing Thai Niyom electioneering money about like there was no tomorrow.

His throw-away 150 billion baht of Thai Niyom money makes makes 40 billion look like peanuts. And he hasn't even started properly yet. Just wait till he really gets going spending even more taxpayer money to try to claim glory for himself at the coming "election".

Wow.

Whatta complete and uttered waste of money [false wealth] and effort.

Why bother.

Still, most are missing the bigger picture.

Same as it ever was.

Well , if that were to be true, they could give 1000 baht each to all of the 35 million voters and still have 36.5 billion to send out of the country to their offshore banks

I guess maths was also not your favourite subject at school

A Peters and Lee song springs to mind, one the Junta would not like, not sure about the people! Apparently this couple are not interested in Submarines  and military kit, I wonder whats in their manifesto and will they be a popular alternative?

So... double what Hillary spent, three times what Trump spent, and almost twice Obama's expenditure. For a rigged election in a banana republic most people couldn't find on a map.

What's a photo of Yingluck campaigning in the 2011 election got to do with the 2019 election.

There are plenty of photographs already available of the PM campaigning around the provinces for the 2019 election which would be much more appropriate. Photographs of other candidates campaigning are not available for well known legal reasons.

Okay, we know what Prayut has.

What about the other political parties?

That's a LOT of Somtam then ...........

Considering that it is taxpayers money, or money to be printed in the future or money "reclaimed" back in the future ..........

At least I know now, that I shall be spending the 23rd/24th February 2019 in Vientiane. I have not booked yet though as there might be a change of plans ..........

I sure hope the country doesn't run out of brown envelopes between now and the election!

It's going to be a BUSY season. Wonder if I'll find some spare bags of cash on the curb or sidewalk somewhere.

The latest devil's horn salute is the best one I've seen. His subtle use of light and shadow to create this ungodly cat-duck hybrid with it's deranged bug eyes and twisted beak is quite chilling.

As long as the outcome is to my liking, I have no problem with that ?

Doesn't matter the outcome, everything will remain the same.
