The hotels were contravening 2004 legislation by offering daily rentals. The raid was conducted by Bang Lamung official Praphan Prathumchomphu and chief of Pattaya's tourist police Lt-Col Piyapong Ensarn. The force was seen entering two properties the first of which was Joy Residence. The second could not be clearly ascertained. Pattaya Online News said that more than 100 illegal hotels had now been visited as part of the crackdown. The exact nature of charges and who would face them was not clearly articulated in the story. sam neuts
This has been going on since 2016 and full compliance is expected by 2021. If you take a walk around Pattaya you will see many closed that used to offer daily rentals.
BestB
None of the small places or even medium size places could ever comply with this Act and will never be able to obtain hotel license. This brainiacs need to use brain for a change and comprehend that if a place is safe for 30 day rentals, there is absolutely no reason why it would not be safe for daily rentals. Just print new license, charge 10 times more for it and problem solved but NOOOOOOO Just like with everything else, they will first kill all and then wonder what has happened and how to revive it. I also think someone in Pattaya online news, needs to catch up instead of just posting any rubbish they can. Not only 7 were raided, but 7 get raided twice per week every week for the past at least 3-4 months, so do the math, no where near 100, more like 200 if not more. Though 1 positive, if you listen to the head of Banglamung talking to reception, he says signs for daily rental and prices still up. so one could take from this, remove "daily" signs and prices and you should be ok ?

All a rubbish waste of time. Stifling small business is the POINT of the exercise. The hotel association WANTS the small guys put out of business. And, since the BIB are beholden to those with the most cash, that is what is happening.
sanemax
Well, that's inflation for you . 20 years ago, they used to raid hotels that charged by the hour . Now they are raiding hotels that charge by the day . Wonder whether that's anything to do with viagra now being available over the counter ?

All a rubbish waste of time. Sadly, I disagree. These small hotels make it far more difficult to collect all the brown envelopes and they offer lower prices. Lower prices mean unwelcome competition for the BIG hotels that faithfully deliver their brown envelopes every week. Competition is not welcome here! Actually guys, he is not wrong, It was Hotel Association who forced, possibly paid the government to start this madness. The big boys club of 800 members, who happen to be 4-5 star hotels are the ones who started and pushing this agenda. I am guessing in their narrow heads they believe this will get them more guests, sadly they do not realize, 500 baht room guests do not book into 5000 baht rooms and vice versa 5000 baht room guests, do not go stay in 500 baht rooms. This only happens on Thai visa, in reality, those who go 4-5 star, always go ONLY 4-5 star and those who do budget, will ONLY do budget and if budget is not available, they simply will not go at all, that is IF they could afford it to start with

It is the growing number of independant travellers organising their own accommodation via the likes of airbnb who are skewing the market and at plenty of condo complexes other than the Base. May well be so, but keep in mind, all those groups were never interested in staying in 2 star hotels. Westerners never really traveled in groups, which leaves only Chinese, Indian and Russians and these groups always stayed in 4-5 star hotels, never a 2 star.
