That's not what it says in English, there's no mentione of giving back anything.

Yep. The text says that Joe picks 8 more than Joy so how many does Joe pick in total.

It still doesn’t get away from the fact that Arsenal never got the best out of Olivier Giroud

The numbers as well as plus and minus doesn't matter the government says it all equals 4.0

That's what the 'teacher' learned from his mum:

'Tis hard to drain the swamp when you're up to your ass in alligators.

Alligators or not, this guy is trying (very)!!

Try the teacher with this one.

3 guys on fishing trip book a room in a hotel.

Receptionist charges then 30 dollars. Each hands over 10.

Later, the manager realises thats wrong and should have been 25 dollars and gives one of then 5 dollars. He decides to tell the other two they get discount of a dollar each so gives each a dollar back. ( each pays 10 and gets 1 back )

Each one has now paid 9 dollars = 27 dollars but the third has two dollars. 27 +2 = 29.

Where did the other dollar go?

The 3rd guy has $3... But that's irrelevant, as no manager would ever realize he had over charged.. Undercharged maybe, but never over charged !!

Yes, that's a good one but the crafty fisherman has three dollars, not two, since he only paid the discount dollars to his 2 pals, i.e. his 2 pals pay 9 dollars but he's paid only 7 [10 - (5-2)], so 9+9+7 = 25 makes everyone square . . . sort of. I'm glad I wasn't trying to explain that to a class of grinning fifteen-year-olds, though!

I am reliably informed by someone of far greater intellect and language skills than me that the basis of the questions states the original person has 12 mangoes and someone else has 8 more mangoes more than them.  The question then asks how many mangoes does the second person have.

Theyre  still, bananas!

That was really the idea of the post. It wasn't a serious brain-teaser.

Try filling in the next 3 or 4 lines.

12,211  ( if you already know the answer wait a good while, give people time to think )

I'm 90% sure that the teacher can handle basic math, if it is expressed like this 12 + 8 = X

However, they have to dress up the math problem with prose, which now requires that one understands the syntax before offering a solution, That's where the student outperforms the teacher.

Well, at least there is consistency. I met educational specialists in this country teaching English. "Hello, how are you?" were answered with "yes", the follow-up question being "what is your name?" resulted in "yes" again.
Initially I thought this gentleman was pulling my leg until I realized, that he had not the slightest clue.

So happened in Surin in a government public school - not 200 years ago but last month ?

But in the text they write first person have 12.. second person give back 8.. so the teacher is correct. But he also should mark with red that the plus is incorrect.

12-8 is 4

I read Thai, for more than 40 years. I translated the middle school math book for a well-known private school here in Chiang Mai. I read the text. I have no idea what you're talking about, and neither do you.

I bought something for 45 Baht recently and handed over 100 Baht and he rang that up on the till

I then noticed that I had a 50 Baht note , so, I took the 100 Baht back and gave him the 50 Baht.

He called the supervisor over to get the transaction cancelled on the till .

I took the 50 Baht back and gave him back the 100 Baht and he happily gave me 55 Baht change

So he didn't know how to cancel the transaction on the till to show you had now given him 50 baht... what's your point?

It doesn't mean he didn't know what you were trying to do!

Relying on a calculator to verify financial transactions is not limited to Thailand.  During my school days, prior to pocket calculators, all math test answers were calculated in your head or by pen and paper.  Now students use technology, not brainpower. Just go into any fast food chain with a high school student working the register. Have a $20 bill in your hand and place your order. When your order total appears (in my case $7.33) and the register has already calculated your change from the $20 bill, reach into your pocket and give the clerk the $20 bill and 8 cents and see their facial expression. I did this once, expecting $12.75 in change. I received a $10 bill, 3-$1 bills, 7 dimes and a nickel. I noticed her error before she finished counting it all out. I hesitated, she just looked at me and said: "thank you". I said: no, thank you.

He could have just given my 5 Baht change , instead of my giving him an extra 50 Baht (in the form of a 100 Baht note) and him giving me 55 Baht back (including the 50 Baht that I had just given him)

Where did the other dollar go?

Each guy paid $10 each, then guy A recieved $5 back then guy B & C recieved $1 back, so guy A has paid $5 and guy B & C has paid $9 each so in total $23 has been paid.
