Soon-to-retire Lt General Piyawat Nakwanit foolishly believes he could make militants surrender by arresting their families

Right, only learn from the best. In Nazi Germany they called it "Sippenhaft" = collective punishment. Any plans for concentration camps on the desk?

And how long do they propose to detain the families? Unless 'indefinately' is the answer, well done in creating even more angry people at large with a huge grudge against the state.

The man's a fool.

In North Korea, the innocent families of defectors, and/or for many other activities or behaviours that are classified as offences by those at the top, especially Kim Jong Un, suffer the consequences of those actions, and they do so for three generations.  I note this as you fly the North Korean flag.

So you feel Thailand should be emulating the DPRK model, do you?
