The TAT – Tourism Authority of Thailand – is coming to the rescue of the beleaguered national carrier, Thai Airways. They are going to promote 20 flight routes in 10 provinces for the rest of this year.

This is in response to instructions from the Thai government for state-owned enterprises to work together to boost income for the airline which has a hemorrhaging bottomline for the first eight months of this year. The move seeks to combine the efforts of state-owned Krungthai Bank, Airports of Thailand and the TAT.

The local campaign is being titled “Amazing Thailand, Go Local” and is promoting destinations covered by Thai and their semi-budget offshoot Thai Smile.

Well Chinese tour groups wont be flying to Nakhon Nowhere so that leaves independent tourists and domestic travellers.

One would imagine that they would base their choice of carrier on the age old principles of service and price , rather than gimmicks.

So its back to square one really !

Good luck with that promotion. I useBritish Airwys now - and last few years - as they are cheaper - never thought I'd say that

Is BA doing local flights within thailand?

Many very successful airlines, both national and low-cost, have hired foreign managers and CEOs. People of experience who actually know what is their job, who deliver, and who have the guts to make cuts where needed and to say no to stupid ideas even if they come from above.

Boost tourism in secondary provinces? I just received their offer. It is a 4-city tour starting from Bangkok. You have to pick up the ticket at their Bangkok office. How tempting for the rest of us.

"Meanwhile, the Tourism Council of Thailand is hoping that the Prime Minister’s visit to Europe in June will spur some new interest from European tourists to head back to Thailand for New Year."

Why? Especially as local press coverage was just about zero.

Any nationalised company in Thailand is going down the pan unless they hold the monopoly like the pea (electric).privitisation is the way forward with more choice and competition and lower prices.richard Branson has proved that.

Yes, that's the ticket . . . Thai junta regime loser #2 offering to help loser #1. But let's not scoff before we look into their fiendishly cunning plan.

Ah, now I get it, but how is THAI going to service airports that are little more than sheds at the edge of the jungle? But, emphasising that all-important Thainess attitude, the Thai Government has instructed:-

I dread to think what the spokesperson thought 'hemorrhaging bottomline' meant. He'd always thought that was a monthly issue.

This, like every other ill-conceived junta 'initiatives' is bound for the trash can.

Last time I had a hemorrhaging  bottom line it turned out to a load of parasites that I had taken onboard. Took a little while and different treatments, some quite harsh, to clean them out but at the end it meant that all the goodness from my food

( intake ) was used by me and none disappeared into the stomachs of the freeloading parasites.
