Southern train service resume after derailment

Southern train services resumed early on Thursday after an engine and a carriage of a derailed train were removed from a track in Songkhla, railway officials said.

 

The Chumphon-Hat Yai train derailed near the Bang Klam station in Songkhla's Bang Klam district on Wedneday night and railway workers worked throughout the night to salvage the train and fix the damaged track.

 

They used cranes to lift the derailed engine and the first carriage from the track.

 

The five remaining carriages were pulled to Bang Klam station.

 

The operation was done at 5.39am on Thursday so train services scheduled on Thursday were not affected.

 

Samarn Raksawong, head of train service of the Hat Yai district, said the derailment did not affect the southern services because the problem was solved before the normal schedule of the southern trains began.

 

Samarn said the first train that passed the fixed track was the Bangkok-Hat Yai train No 31.
