Hoping ubonjoe or someone can help me.

I am here on a retirement visa and want to switch to a WP.  Am I on the correct visa if not what do I need to do.

Also if I have to go out of the country where is the best and cheapest way.  My Retirement extension is up for renewal in January.

If you find a job you would need to get a non-b visa to have a work permit issued. The labor ministry will not normally even accept a work permit application if you are on an extension based upon retirement.

Vientiane is a good location to apply for a non-b visa but you will need a work permit application approval letter when doing the application.

You may have to leave the country to get a tourist visa or visa exempt entry to do the work permit application.

Yes but you will need paperwork from the company you will be working for to get them.

Don't forget that if you get the B visa and work permit when the B visa is converted to an extension of stay by Imm' then when the work stops the extension of stay will be cancelled on the day you officially stop working and you will have to get your retirement extension of stay started again.

This.

If you're just going to teach at some mediocre school doing god knows what, think twice. If you're married move to a non O

If you're enjoying comfy retirement and are not looking for aggro, do not get a business B. You've been warned.

If you're American, married you may avoid the police check as well.

If you don't mind the question, what is the kind of job you have been offered?

Don't need company names or details etc.

Assuming of course the job he has will qualify for an extension of stay, if not being paid enough etc, will have to do a border bounce every 3 months...a WP doesnt automatically infer an extension of stay

Running my own business as a teacher so there is no minimum also I am the director of the business so no worries about getting fired or a crap teaching gig.

There is all the crap of having a minimum number of Thai employees for your own business though. If you think you can do it as a 'sole trader' there is a lot more for you to find out yet.

That would mean finding a nearby embassy to issue a multi entry B and to my knowledge there isn't one. Only single entry B's issued.

( 90 days ) for the first one.

Penang will do a multi B but many conditions have to be fulfilled for it, be a director, shareholder etc and have at least 8 months on your work permit etc.

Why not put all those details in your opening post then?

Because all I was asking about was if I needed to change my visa.  It has nothing to do with the WP.

Simple answer is all that's required to support issue of a WP is a Non Imm' visa.
