BANGKOK, 9th October 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport has unveiled 60 new vans to replace decommissioned ones, making sure that public transport services continue without a hitch.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith presided over a ceremony marking the release of 60 new vans. Van operators are required by law to retire vehicles that are 10 years or older.

There are currently 110 new vans in Bangkok and its vicinity. The Ministry of Transport is determined to replace the remaining 844 decommissioned vans in the near future. Van operators, whose vehicles are going to reach the 10-year mark between 2019 and 2028, must replace their vehicles with 21-seat microbuses if they wish to continue their service.

Those struggling financially are able to apply for a low-interest loan at the one-stop service center of the Department of Land Transport. The center was established as a joint venture between the Department of Land Transport, Transport Co. Ltd, Krung Thai Bank and the Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation.

More coffins on wheels on the road when are these people going to learn. I was of the understanding that these vehicles were to be phased out and replaced with 20 seater buses. Another brown envelope gets passed around?

They are just replacing old vans.  They aren't in the "Miracle Working" business. lol

They are just replacing old vans.  Cause an official got brown envelop from the seller.

And where are those long ago proposed micro busses or was that just some pipe dream or hot air blown from someone to justify his work and claim a few brown envelopes for the tender process...

Hope they're fitted with electronic speed limiters as they were all supposed to be some years ago.

As far as I know and experienced it's just a beep sound over 90km/h but no real limitations.
