So there is a market like 700 meters away from me behind the mall at Thapra down these winding alleys. MY local MC dudes take me there for 10 baht. I call it a market (talat) but they call it something else, like "maywee" or such like. Its huge, its cheap, its near a Wat and I always score because .00001% of the folks that go there are falang and all I have to do is look lost and stupid (easy for me) and the old ladies give me xtra food, etc. The chicken wing fry lady loves me because all these young girls buy 3 for 15baht, Im like 5baht each? Score! Havent seen prices like that for wings since 10 cent wings in the 80s! I can pound a dozen. Here, start counting! 

 

But I digress.

 

Anyway I hate walking back along the khlong because its dark and narrow and bikes are whizzing by in a never ending stream, and every once in a while I hear someone say falang and I dont know if they are warning folks that a stupid falang is there or maybe they want to run me down. Anyway its like 350 meters down this "road", then I climb some stairs and Im home. So before I turn down the road, I ask a MALL MC Taxi dude how much, show him the exact spot on the GPS and he says 200B. What the fork! Duh. Maybe he wanted to negotiate, who knows, but IM done with those guys. I mean really.

You said it - expect most drivers would ask a bit more from such a customer.

 

There is also a real chance he had no idea where you wanted to go and was just covering himself - many have no idea of GPS or maps.
