Rimmer
Pattaya sweeps homeless off Jomtien Beach PATTAYA:--More than a dozen homeless people were picked up in Jomtien Beach and offered shelter and job training. Pattaya Social Welfare Department staffers swept up the 13 indigents in Jomtien and Dongtan beaches Sept. 26. They were taken to the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center. Six were found to have no identification card and were detained, but the others were allowed to leave, as long as they didn’t go back to the beach, creating a bad image for Pattaya with tourists. Vocational training also was offered to help them get back on their feet. -- © Copyright Pattaya Mail 2018-10-12

Good idea to help them but it's pointless if they not get a little bit money most of them have big mentality problem and fare away to keep a job It is more about Thailand don't want tourists to see they have homeless people Soon they will be back on beach I personally give them water and food when I am on the beach

mlmcleod
Sadly, it is a common sight here in Pattaya/Jomtien. The frequent hard rains have temporarily forced out the homeless in my neighborhood. The unsightly remains of the makeshift living arrangements remain for all to see. I am sure they will return during dry season.

Incest and such is also taking place by the looks of it... Only one person works and only half the kids go to school and the rest steal all day long and collect rubbish and omg the egos.... Aparantley its thai culture to steal and not obey land laws, respect anyone else, shower, etc... Thats what theyve told my wife anyway. Popular Post KhunFred
Some of these people are severely mentally ill and in various stages of malnutrition. I don't care WHAT the circumstances are that led them to this point. This situation is abhorrent and immoral Don't dare tell me that Thailand is too poor to provide food and shelter for such people. This is heartbreaking to see. I try to give some of these people forty baht, so they can buy a bowl of soup, but this is like spitting in the ocean, in terms of making a real difference. What are the pious monks doing to alleviate this suffering??? NOTHING. I welcome the day when Thailand has to pay for the sins against its people. 3

I bet there are a lot of compassionate foreigners would like to help, more than just giving 40 baht every time they see one, but help in making them self sufficient with training. Maybe a visa offer for part time mentoring role. The trouble being authorities not skilled at organising such things. Or like someone said already, falang influence is not wanted.

Popular Post swissie
There are more invisable homeless than visable homeless in Pattaya. On my recent holiday, I met an old aquaintance, completely stressed out. In short: "Not much customer and many new people come to Pattaya every day look for work". As it turned out, she was thrown out of her shared room because she could not pay her share anymore. (no free lunch here, not even among "friends"). According to her, she sleeps on the beach, in dark doorways or on "Buddha-Mountain". She claimed, there are "very many" in the same situation. The invisable homeless in Pattaya. Still, they dress nicely and never walk around in dirty clothes. That's probably what makes them the invisible homeless of Pattaya. Good for a Lady that works in a massage parlor. Not having seen a customer for days, they are now at least allowed to "overnight" at the massage parlor. (In my part of Pattaya, that is). The 20 Bht for "overnight" will be deducted from their earnings. (No free lunch here also). Behind all the glitter, for many it's strictly a Darvinian "survival of the fittest" situation. --------------------------- Yes, I still dislike it, when every 20 seconds a wandering sales person wants to sell me useless junk or fake watches. Before, my body language always said: <deleted>-off! In the future, I will give them a friendly headshake and a smile. Who knows, maybe this pestering salesperson is another "invisible homeless", desperately waiting for High-Season. Or a highly seasoned Farang. Whichever comes first. Cheers.

Jack100
Actually I know this area and it's not a million miles from Jomtien market . I have passed by these homeless people many times over the past few years and they are all very polite and nice , though they seem to be a bit thin . Frankly they hardly ever ask me for money , I give sometimes .
