23rd Oct - Bar/Club closures for Chulalongkorn Day?

Does anyone know if Bars/Clubs will be closed on the 23rd Oct? When these closures do happen, does that in fact mean from 12am on the 23rd until 11:59pm on the same day (23rd)? Meaning that on the 24th at 12am Bars/Clubs will reopen for party peeps?

Don't you miss it by one day?

23rd is not a Buddhist holiday so likely no restrictions.

BUT 24 October 2018 is end of Buddhist lent (an important Buddhist holiday).

Quite likely that bars will have to close.

Midnight 23rd time to shut down.

Buddhist lent is a full moon holiday, not a fixed date.

So 23/24 just by coincidence this year.

The bars have never been closed on the 23rd as for I have remembered. Also I know that Nana and Soi Cowboy are open on the 24th for the end of Lent.

Not what a bar lady told me. She said her bar, 7/11 on Nana is closed 24, so she bring me beer! No bar fine, so I'm happy!!

Oh, never knew that. Was just going off the holidays that was marked on the Agoda booking site. Does that mean both the 23rd and 24th Oct are both public holidays?

No. "Holidays" in Thailand are a complicated matter, really.

1) There are public holidays.

2) There are important Buddhist "holy days".

Most Buddhist holy days are also public holidays.

Buddhist lent (Oct 24) is an exception. No public holiday but still considered an important Buddhist day of celebration.

For such days there is always restriction for entertainment/alc. sales.

Chulalongkorn day is a public holiday but not a Buddhist holy day.

(remembering the Great King Rama V)

An example for an "office holiday" usually without restrictions.

Confusion complete ? :whistling:

There will be a scam somewhere along the line, don't believe you are getting something for nothing here in Thai

I don't know the situation for that specific date. But I know that in many cases not even the bar owners know if they have to close - not even 2 or 3 days in advance.

Those are sometimes last minute decisions by the local police.

We can all guess but basically it can change until the last day.
