Call to overturn ban on e-cigarettes in Thailand

Featured Replies

Well, Vaping is such a safe alternative to smoking, it is injurious to health. Vaping is not safe but much safer than smoking. You can try vape eliquid juices instead of smoke cigarettes.

I have no opinion either way on this. If it can help you get off the fags then all well and good. I tried it once but I didn't like it, made me cough really bad. The next problem though is how to stop

No, but that says to me, it's just your thoughts, and not fact.

so maybe BS. :coffee1:

I'm still waiting to see what regulations exactly concern 18650 batteries, portable heating devices, polypropylene glycol or vegetable glycerin. That's all you need to vape without nicotine. Nicotine if I've understood correctly is in liquid form a pharmaceutical and controlled by some sort of regulation in that space?

If you ever vaped or smoked you would know what is bs and what is not.

vapers do not change to smoking and smokers takes some time to get use to vaping .

shisha is more of a vape than a smoke

This is the craziest thing i have ever heard . The ban on e-cigs or any vaping is insane.. of course the tobacco industry is behind this.. All of the non-bias studies not funded by tobacco companies conclude there is no comparison of e-vapor to tobacco smoke.  The Boston University study, which is one of the best, determined that e-cigs are so much safer (approx 1,000 times safer than using tobacco) . As far as kids, if you think you can stop all children from smoking anything..hahaha! So now some kids choose a much safer product and everyone is so upset!  The exact same concept holds true for illegal drug use, prostitution, etc.  Is vaping completely safe, of course not.  Its like comparing alcohol to pot.. alcohol is clearly responsible for so much mortality, morbidity and destruction and pot is not..its just a fact!

As crazy as it sounds , personally I do not find the ban to be crazy , as it’s banned in many countries . But the penalties, that is the crazy part. Up to 5 year jail ? 50000 baht bribes?

Ejuice containing nicotine is banned in Oz, NSW, but can be found in most shops. Fines are minimal if enforced at all.

Truth is governments all around the world do not know how to tax it. They all want HUGE taxes from smokers and producers while screaming how smoking kills.

Here is a safer alternative and no government is in any rush to promote it or even pay for proper studies.

nicotine patches and gum they support and it cost just as much as cigs if not more but nicotine free alternative they ban or limit.

The war against vaping...

Every day near you an elite squad waits ready to pounce....

Meanwhile truck loads of yaba scream across the border every day whilst the population inebriates itself on Lao Kao (big distillery up my way),generic whiskey and goodness knows what else they can get their hands on..antihistamine tablets are the most likely..

Gotta love the logic of it all.

Yes, It's not banned in NZ anymore, which has adopted the UK model. Australia is just determined to push through an anti-nicotine agenda- one may or may not agree.  It may be banned in other countries, but in many of those it is 'tolerated'.

The UK might be said to be promoting vaping, backed by what it claims to be convincing evidence. Trade is regulated.  In the UK, most high streets have Vape shops.

Thailand claims that vaping is dangerous, and attracts children, who will then adopt smoking.  East Timor appears to agree.

Yes the OZ (NSW) thing is a little puzzling and I would agree that it seems fueled more by the 'anti nicotine' lobby rather than common sense. You can certainly buy nicotine added vape juice online without any hassles.

The social rules appear to be about the same as cigarette smoking and there seems to be very few ructions and,of course,no swingeing fines.

Thai law banning e-cigarettes should be repealed.  It seems complete nonsense to ban something that has helped millions of people quit smoking cigarettes but not ban cigarettes themselves!  I mean, how illogical is that?

I think it's obvious that the ban has little to do with public health and a lot more to do with protecting the lucrative tobacco industry and government's income from tobacco taxes.

While it is too early to say whether or not there are long-term health hazards from e-cigarettes, all of the unbiased research to date has not proven any serious health hazards associated with vaping.

Unlike tobacco products there are no tars or other known carcinogenic substances in e-cigarettes.  The only hazardous substance in e-cigarettes is nicotine but many people (including myself) wean themselves down to zero milligrams over time.

I quit smoking cigarettes about 4 years ago.  Up until then I smoked a pack a day of Marlboro Reds.  Previous to vaping, I had tried to quit for several years by various means, all of them unsuccessful.  Only vaping allowed me to quit, and I have not wanted a cigarette since the day I started vaping.

Truth is, vaping is quite enjoyable.  I no longer have an addiction to nicotine but I still enjoy vaping.  It is relaxing, and there are now many "gourmet" makers of e-juice that are truly flavorful and quite pleasurable.

Believe it or not, I take my health quite seriously.  If I had the slightest suspicion that vaping was bad for you, I would quit in a heartbeat!  I stay up-to-date on all the research going on into the safety or lack thereof of vaping, and the only negative research I ever encounter is from incredibly biased sources like where funding for a study comes from the tobacco industry or one of their lobbying groups!

Anyway, I hope Thai officials lift this ridiculous ban.  To keep it in place only results in a black market for the stuff, and promotes tobacco use which is unequivocally dangerous to health.

Of course it should be government-regulated with age restrictions, and unscrupulous companies that target kids should be kept in check.

Just my personal view.

I'm still waiting for any one to point out what laws you are talking about. Nicotine seems to be the only controlled substance, all else is electronics and baking ingredients.
