SteveK Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Hi guys, I am in Isaan, close to Ubn Ratchathani. For visa purposes I need to leave and re-enter. I want to make it a two week trip and soak up some culture. I would like to ask what you think the best destinations would be, taking into account cost and convenience? I'm looking at Phnom Penh, Taipei, (not Laos, because it's too boring), maybe HCMC. Not interested in Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia, been there, done that. Looking for somewhere I can relax for two weeks with a few beers every day without blowing 100,000 baht. Any ideas?
Sattar Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 I think that staying for two weeks in one place is silly. For two weeks you can visit many different places and explore the country up and down.

Those who don’t have a Hong Kong Resident permit will need to apply for a Chinese Visa using an agency. Note: There is conflicting information about this point. Some China travelers insist that it is possible for foreigners to apply at the Hong Kong Consular without the need of an agency. It would be a cheaper options, so you can give that a try before using an agency. There are a number of agencies located in Hong Kong including China Travel Services (CTS) which is conveniently located at the airport and will help walk you through the process. The Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry is thought to offer cheaper prices but offers little in the way of assistance. When applying for the visa you will need to bring an itinerary with you that shows where you will be staying while in China and proof that you will be exiting China (return ticket home or to a third country). It’s not unheard of for people to book hotels for the sake of obtaining the Chinese visa and then later cancelling the reservations. Regardless of how you go about it you must have an itinerary to show when applying for the visa. Other documents you will need include: A passport that has at least 6 months of validity A passport photo (if you don’t have one you can usually get one taken at the visa office) A photocopy of the main pages of your passport (photo and information) Your visa application form A copy of the arrival stamp/ticket your received in Hong Kong
blackhorse Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 No where. Do your self a HUGE favor and do a border hop and get back. 2 weeks in any of the places recommended will have you pulling your wallet out and amending your flightSingapore and Hong Kong excluded but you already indicated cheap beer so they are out
AlexRich Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 You can get a flight from Bangkok on Air Asia to Bali relatively cheaply ... and not that expensive if you aren't too fussy about hotels.
phuketrichard Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Myanmar, get ur visa online Fly into Mandalay and work ur way south and rerun via Yangon 2 weeks you can see alot and have a great time
murraynz Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 penang is nice, but i think more than 4 days would get boring. i am going to sri lanka and maldives for a week in febuary--- the flights are also cheap from bangkok... does anybody have advise about sri lanka or maldives..?? i have been to vietnam several times, love nha trang beach, going to Da nang on friday for 4 days.. for my next 'getaway'...in vietnam...where is the cheapest place, with nice beach, some nightlife and good restaurants ????
Mac98 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Phnom Penh. Cheap to get to, $1 beer, nice people, some lovely ladies. Nice, quiet hotels out in the tree-lined 248+ neighborhood. International restaurants, coffee shops galore. Easy to get to downtown nightlife. (I experienced a shop owner closing his business so he could take me on his motorbike to buy the item I wanted but he didn't carry - Diet Coke!), then drop me at my hotel, no charge.

IMHO HCMC is a shithole. That would be my suggestion. I have just had 4 days in Langkawi, went overland which made it 6 days. We did look at going to Vietnam but realised that there was so much to see we put it off to another time when we could arrange a much longer trip. I went once before about 10 years ago just for the weekend, one night in HCMC and a couple of days at Mui Ne, quite nice beach resort. Bonus at the moment for some nationalities with no visa requirement for short visits.
