Last night while at our local eatery I was using my phone and using the calculator function, the phone was online with the 'mobile data" and WiFi on. Then all of a sudden someone or something took over the phone and started typing in weird numbers and started doing various calculations, nothing miraculous but nevertheless I lost control of the phone until I switched it off and rebooted. Nothing happened after that.

I need to add that 3 young lads entered the place about 2 minutes before this incident, all armed with two phones each (not Thai or Farang) and appeared to be talking to someone while working on the other phone and all looked at me (with big smiles on their faces) when my phone started to go crazy. At this point of time I have no idea why they all looked at me as I had not said a word while I was watching the screen go crazy.

Has anybody had this happen to them? If so is there a cure? Very weird indeed. Thanks in advance.

The cure is probably turn off your wifi and restart your phone on 4g  only

Anyone with a phone or laptop can broadcast a wifi network that looks legitimate and trick you into connecting to it... It takes a few seconds to change the network name to "Burger King Free Wifi" or whatever

I would Grab  avg antiviris and malwarebytes from the playstore and run a full scan anyway to make sure

At the same time yes, but for them to both work together simultaneously, no! WiFi always take priority over mobile data but if your mobile data is enabled then the android system can immediately switch back to it if your wifi has no internet connection. You can but it’s not straightforward to combine the bandwidth between two connection type because you would probably need some sort of synchronization between service providers or two sessions between a single service provider to combine the internet traffic being requested from the two sources.

Yes it's easy to hack into phones these days. If you install a VPN and change your IP it will be more difficult for the hackers to do a lot of stuff.

But only one of both can be active at any time

You're right in most cases you can only use one or the other but that is changing

Samsung enabled it a few years ago but it didn't really catch on:

Ais are now selling a package that combines ais super wifi with 4g to download at over 1GB/s but i haven't had the chance to try it yet.. ????

It's still a feature.  From the Note 8 manual:

Download booster
Set the device to download files larger than 30 MB, faster via Wi-Fi and mobile networks
simultaneously. A stronger Wi-Fi signal will provide a faster download speed.
On the Settings screen, tap Connections → More connection settings → Download
booster.
