The Simpsons writer Al Jean has responded to claims that controversial character Apu will be cut out of future episodes.

The long-running show has come under fire for it’s depiction of Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, with viewers complaining that the character promotes racist stereotypes of people of Indian and Asian descent.

Apu first appeared in The Simpsons episode ‘The Telltale Head’ in 1990, voiced by white actor Hank Azaria.

But in an interview with IndieWire last week, Castlevania animator Adi Shankar spoke to IndieWire about his attempts to crowdsource a script that tackled the ‘Apu Problem’, and subsequently claimed that it had been rejected as the character is to be dropped from the show.

Will groundsman Willie also be removed from the show for being a racist scottish stereotype? Why discriminate against one race and not another. It's is a comedy after all.  Lighten up and have a laugh at yourselves. Yours jock.

Part of the fuss is the "voiced by white actor" bit.  He's an ACTOR, what does it matter what colour he is, his JOB is to pretend to be someone he's not!

Just heard on British radio broadcaster LBC. This character will not be killed off. Has someone finally caught some sence. Claiming racism is becoming a occupation.

Surprised Apu is seenas a sterotype since he'sbeen on the show so long. A Stereotype woud have had the Kwiki Mart owned by Jewish or Iranians who then sold out to the Koreans who then sold out to the Indians.
