Police in Pattaya have arrested two men who fleeced a group of Chinese tourists of 4,000 baht.

On Friday, the tourists had made a complaint to police after the men had demanded they pay fines for dropping litter near Bali Hai pier.

The tourists handed over 4,000 baht to the men, but it was only when they were leaving the area they spotted signs that revealed the fine for littering is 2,000 baht.

Realising they had been the victims of a scam, the tourists reported the matter to police.

Police managed to track down the men after studying CCTV footage.

They initially denied any involvement, despite being identified by the Chinese tourists.

It wasn’t until police showed the CCTV footage they confessed.

The PR Pattaya Facebook page said the men, who were wearing uniforms at the time of the incident, work for City Hall but are employed via a third party.

The pair have been dismissed and face fines of up to 20,000 baht and/or one year in jail.

Typically, the fine for littering in Thailand is 2,000 baht, which should be paid at a police station. Offenders should also be given a receipt, which wasn’t the case in this incident with the Chinese tourists.

You can see the police faces quite clearly. The photo-op is for them, not the criminals.

But Lt/Gen Big Joke was not there, so why did they need a Photo-op

Oh wait! There might have been a Lt/Col there, or maybe a Maj/Gen.:cheesy:

Going to another country for holiday and litter ☹️. They should be fined 10.000 Baht!

Yes, I know, Thais do litter (much more than should), but the point is that if you are on holiday you are a guest of a country and should never litter.

In general the fine for littering should be 10k Baht, BUT, the Thais should take action to provide sufficient bins to be honest.
