Suthep warns not to under-estimate Thaksin’s party branching out tactic

Palang Prachachart Thai (ACT) party founder Suthep Thuagsuban has warned against under-estimating fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s tactic of branching out the Pheu Thai into several new parties to contest the election.

“I have sent out a warning before that Thaksin Shinawatra is employing the tactic to splitting a 1,000-baht banknote into several 100-baht banknotes.  This cannot be under-estimated because several 100-baht banknotes when putting together may achieve the target of more than 300 MPs,” said Suthep after attending a ceremony to open the new head office of the party.

He cited  Thanatorn Jungroongruangkit’s Future Forward party which is targeting young voters, former Pheu Thai MP Wan Muhamad Noor Matha’s party focusing in the Deep South and Ms Yaowapa Wongsawat’s Thai Raksa Chart party as off-shoots of the Pheu Thai party.

Isn't he doing exactly the same thing he warns Thaksin is by splitting to form his own party?

Yep, they were mates at one time till one didn't want to share the trough anymore!

Suthep needs the Thaksins, despite being corrupt they at least understand the fundamentals of democracy, you know things like actually getting voted in by the people

"He said it took the Democrat party about two months to form a government after the party won the election several years ago."

He means a few decades ago, the democrat party did not win a single general election this century...

A worryingly paranoid politician, if ever there was one. The Thai political scene will never be able to recover so long as the likes of Suthep are still making noises.

Paranoid seem like it's only the beginning of this guy's problems. Still, he's entitled to make noises I suppose. the big problem is that a goodly number of very strange people seem to be listening. Personally I think he's a muppet and wouldn't wee on him if he burst into flames.

I agree entirely and put it down to the 'average' Thais having been taught largely to rote learn and their resulting readiness to hear the loudest, but not necessarily the best, noises and, sadly, to follow them.

Agree, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Lack of intelligence and lack of education, it's meat and drink to the fascisti, and that I think, applies to every single 3rd-world country I've ever heard of. They do say that homo sapiens  surpasses the other primates. Personally, I look around me and I'm not so sure.

Watching Thai TV is useful if wanting to get an insight into Thai behaviour, or so I've found. Thai language skills not always necessary - body language, facial expressions and micro expressions and a deeply cynical outlook are all that seem to be required.

Whhooooo! The big bad bogie is coming to get you.

This from a man who has such a proven track record.

This was probably his idea and is disappointed that Thaksin employed it before he was able to put it into motion.

I suspect his is in motion as well, and he just provided a handy list of the parties that aren't signed up.

Sadly, these promoted traits tend to be most universal the world over - consumed and absorbed easily.

If repeated loud and often enough and brought to attention over and again - all becomes true and real.

The most basic and steadfast practice.

it can all be likened to the traffic light issues

either we put them all on auto which would be sensible and continue to optimise the system there

or we do it all randomly and change variables depending on if we had jok for breakfast or moo bing

a lot of wisdom there, once you understand how traffic is controlled in the city you will understand the thai government, then you will rule the world

Why isn't Suthep in jail?

As the hypocritical double standards apply nicely here - the protection and privileges that accompany.

Thai historic precedence. Been witnessed numerous times over the years.

And, as post #23 pointed out, he knows where a lot of skeletons are buried...
