Police were called to the footbridge outside Central Plaza in Chonburi yesterday after a sign went up claiming that a person had ripped someone off in a Ponzi scheme.

The sign - with a picture of the alleged rip off artist and their Thai ID - said: "Share fraud - they conned me out of money".

Banjop, 47, who organizes the taxi rank at that spot said he didn't know the person who had hung up the sign or the person depicted in the sign.

Samet police chief Pol Col Jakraphan Kittisirapornkun said that this was not the way to go about getting justice.

He said that the person who hung up the sign could face a 5,000 baht fine under littering laws.

And not just that. They could be sued for defamation by the person depicted in the sign.

Jakraphan said that alleged victims of fraud should go to the police who will investigate, reported Sanook.

It looks more like the very widespread..."len share"  scheme   which is kind of like a micro finance money lending come "ponzi scheme"  the profits are supposed to come from interest accumulated from borrowers   but often one or more borrowers fails to pay..and the whole house of cards comes crashing down.

I guess the police are upset because they want to be paid to investigate the crime/Ponzi scheme. The thing I find strange is the police aren't even waiting for the person pictured in the sign/billboard to file a complaint. Leads me to believe he must be related to a policeman.

"He said that the person who hung up the sign could face a 5,000 baht fine under littering laws."

So there are actually 'littering laws' in Thailand ??

Get outa here !

One would never have guessed ...

Do theses laws  apply to a group of  Thais having a picnic on a beach or in a park  and piling up a small mountain of rubbish against  a palm tree trunk?

They would be a lot easier to bust than a phantom poster tier upper !

The right way is to visit the police station and try to persuade an investigator into leaving his air-conditioned office by offering him money for the job he is already paid to do, but doesn't.
