And if it is damaging the image of Pattaya, why are they releasing the story to the press, which spreads the bad news much further than if they had just dealt with the problem and kept quiet?

  • Yes because Farangs holiday in Pattaya purely for the temples, or the lovely sandy beaches...

Yes indeed. But you still have so many on other threads adamant that antisocial behaviour does not have a negative impact on Pattaya as a family resort.

The more major events air on western media. Bangkok mentioned more often than lesser known Pattaya.

I often hear people say Thailand is high crime (and dirty).

Personally, I've never had a problem but I go to CM, not Pattaya.

Was it due to the beach being closed off for the beach rejuvination?

nope  the "rejuvenations"  have been going on for years.

When I see different suspects being transported en-mass like this, it always surprises me that a lot of them don't just jump out and run away. As there were a lot of them, they would be gone before even the police in the truck following could get out and chase after them.

Well. They do know where to find them if they jump. There isn't many spots they can work at.

So why were the whores not standing on the usual side of Beach Rd but on the opposite side? I'm curious to the reason why. Surely there must be a reason why. I don't think it's because they wanted more street light to shine on them so people could see more of their imperfections lol

A lady this morning told me the police fine has gone up to as much as 2000 b now with payment at the police station.

Damn, that will simply put prices up!

Ha, I do not know.

The smart ones see the cops coming and run across the street prior to any contact.  Most do this.

But, If you have been around and seen some of these round ups, there is usually a cop there taking photos or video of them being arrested.

So, if one of them did not have ID and wanted to run knowing the cops here, they would be on the lookout on future dates for that person.  Or, radio another cop at the time and take the chance of a beat down (particularly if LB).

Either way my general feeling is most of the girls working there are afraid of the police.

If caught pay the fine and move on to another day is mostly the best policy.

Years ago they would run onto the beach and bury themselves in the sand like a Dover sole, but now the sand is too shallow. They  were also up a coconut tree, but most of those got cut down. How's a girl or whatever supposed to make a living?

I particularly dislike the hawkers on Walking St itself shoving porno-pictures in your face trying and get you to visit some skanky show-bar. That isn't a great image.

I disagree with this I do not think the roundups are only about money.

I do not care like I said, I go to BR. And most of us that live here could care less.

But, I do understand why some people would be bothered by there appearance or the occasional LB harassment.  Lots of tourists will walk the beach just for that, a walk on the beach.  Sometimes with kids or pushing a stroller.  So, the image in those peoples minds may not be good thus they probably complain.

I do agree about the drug sellers.  That has been going on for years never understood why they have not gotten rid of them.

We (as in everyone in the world) knows Thailand is best know for its "amicable hostess" platoons.  These ladies (I suppose ladyboys and gentlemen also) pay the tourism (foreign and domestic) freight, and a massive chunk of GDP.

Ponder this: would Thailand ever impose similar "relationship" laws as Laos (could they financially)?

No, not unless they tried to change the culture which would take years.

But more and more of these situations are online (dating site) ????meets now.

That is not going to change.

Ever tried to run with high heels ...?

Approve or not, BR & Walking Street are major tourist draws to this town. Do Chinese tours go there because they have heard about the great restaurants? I think not...

I don't partake of what they are selling, prefer my "home prepared"... but when friends come to visit they usually like to at least pop down there for the ambiance (they don't use services either). If Thailand thinks they can compete with Singapore, etc on standard tourist attractions and/or traps, I suggest advocates be tested for drug use or abuse.

Those prostitutes and other sex workers of Pattaya are one of the biggest money earners to this town and the whole country, without the 'dirty sex' images Pattaya will be just another tourists town with rude taxi drives and over zealous city officials...

Totally agree. That's the only image people know worldwide.

By all means, clear out all the 'lady boys' - they are a continual annoyance and no doubt responsible for all the crime on Beach Road not committed by the Jet Ski/Speedboat mafia.

The 'Lima-Bravos' are ruthless! I came out the Hopf one night and jumped on my MBike to pull away onto the beach road. As I reversed out to pull away, a 6ft LB with a voice deeper than Sher-Karn the tiger ran out of the shadows and jumped on my bike pillion.

The 'geeza-bird' had more hands & arms than an Indian deity. multiple hands simultaneously everywhere going for my wallet, phone and necklace.

So I revved up and pulled an enormous over the top wheelie and headed the wrong way up beach road.

The 'cock-in-a-frock' fell off, egressed loosely stage right. My wallet, phone and necklace still intact. My dignity in tatters. ????

Then I'm surprised that at least one of them didn't remove her shoes and do a quick runner!

Into a Soi and ................off, like a rat up a drainpipe!

They need to stand on the beach for a through trash comparison????

So they say.

Window dressing for the international audience. Now how a mass swoop by the BIB on the thousands of brothels and beer bars throughout the Kingdom which exist to service the indigenous male population?

You mean, in many cases, raid themselves???  :cheesy:

I love how the ladies are anxiously hiding their faces, while the ladyboys are busy brushing their hair.

Boys will be. . . girls.

I was totally expecting to see a game of hi-lo break out when they were milling around.

55 no prostitutes in Walking street, they all went to Beach road now.
