But if your country were invaded by another country, do you think people would welcome the invaders with roses? In Iran, the U.S. is still seen as the ‘Great Satan,’ regardless of who is in power. Many Iranians remember their history and how colonialism and foreign interference deeply damaged their country. The Shah was essentially an instrument of the U.S., and a brutal one at that. He jailed, persecuted, tortured, and executed his opponents, and even threatened entire families if one person resisted
