Bangkok Roads To Close Sunday For Cycling Event Rehearsal

BANGKOK — Several major roads in Bangkok will be closed to traffic Sunday for rehearsal of an epic cycling event to be led by His Majesty the King next month, officials said.

 

The 39-kilometer route for the Un Ai Rak Bicycle Ride event will be blocked from noon to 7pm for the nearly 90,000 cyclists who registered to practice. The military has also advised commuters to avoid 24 roads that will be affected.

there was something similar last year, looks like more detailed planning this time. last year basically the whole of the centre of bangkok closed down, even the boats?! i was caught out but it wasn't too hot so walked 6-7kms home. there was no information about what roads were working, no marshals to give information, no shuttle buses organised that i could find. the worst thing was tourists either heading to or from hotels and the airport having to trudge the streets like refugees dragging their luggage behind them in a long search for public transport or a taxi.

You can either ride a Bike or you cant

No argument there.

You can either have very tight security or you can't.
