After the British invasion this style was pretty marginalized and mostly popular with select groups as in the lowriders ( note Mexican flag on this 40's car. Yet it, along with blues, was the inspiration and source material for so many British bands that followed in the 60's. A great song in any era. Funny, but by the late 60's there were "oldies" radio stations playing music that, in some cases, wasn't even 10 years old. the dude's talkin' about the brits that would have similar influences before 'the british invasion' in the US early 60s...I'd say that a lot of what the brits call 'northern soul' was influenced by pre stones and beatles music in the US...just listen to the sound track for American Graffiti and old Wolfman Jack to get an idea...sort of pre motown too... when I was in the band we backed up the leader's fabulously sluttish sister whaling on this one...tutsi on bass and doo whopping as vocal backup...the sister looked like Amy Winehouse at her best and had the same stage moves but not the voice unfortunately...her name was Innocencia but she was called Ginzi and she was fabulous...she was older than us and her boyfriend was a badass and had the most elaborate pompadour I had ever seen... greaser heaven although I was a surfer... I enjoy a lot of music now that I'd never consider listening to when I was a long-haired, pot-smoking, acid-taking, beer-drinking, free-lovin', all-around degenerate hippie. On the other hand, there's music that I listened to then that now makes me wanna stick my fingers in my ears. I bought the first two Uriah Heep LP's when they were released, ...Very 'Eavy ...Very 'Umble (eponymously titled in the U.S.) & Salisbury. Played both again today and I hadn't listened to them since the early 70's. Both LP's were not my style any longer. Reminds me too much of heavy metal, which I never got into - too much noise to me. I congratulate you all on your good taste!! Foreigner was one of those bands that we termed "commercial music." You wouldn't get caught dead owning one of their LP's. No, no, no. I probably would have lost most of my friends. I did kinda, sorta like one of their songs just a wee bit at the time. I can't believe I'm posting this after all these years! On top of that I can't remember if I've posted on this thread before but I did have eclectic tastes in my youth and liked music from the following groups/bands: – – Love (especially their Forever Changes LP). – John Miles – Journey – Traffic (and others by Stevie Wynward) – King Crimson – early Elton John stuff – Led Zepplin – Meatloaf – Linda Ronstadt – Fleetwood Mac – Iron Butterfly – Orchestral Manoeuvres – a lot of the "New Romantics" stuff – Soft Cell -- Bonnie Tyler – the Nice (or Emerson, Lake and Palmer – Cat Stevens..................................................... and so many more.
