I have a joint account with my wife, to which I make weekly transfer, weekly because some arse decided that foreigners couldn't make transfers larger than 50K. With that she makes most of the payments. -

why always thai women pay at the cashier?
To the OP's question, these are my observations based on living in Thailand for a long time: 1. Yes, it's common in Thailand for the wife to handle the economy in the relationship, with the husband being given a stipend, pocket money, whatever you wanna call it. It's a cultural thing, and who are we to judge. 2. This is much less common among Farang/Thai couples, although some Farangs in long term relationships where trust is established gladly leave the paying of bills to their wives. As per point one the wives certainly don't mind. 3. Lots of farangs leave paying the bill in restos and bars to their Thai partner for several reasons; - The Thais speak and read thai (duh). This has obvious benefits when dealing with a Thai waiter who, more often than not, presents a bill all written in Thai and speaks little to no English. - Occasionally, when some unscrupulous Thais see farangs paying the bill some cashiers get "creative". Having the Thai pay the bill will in most cases prevent this. - Some farangs are very "careful" with their money, and let their Thai partner pay the bill simple to avoid the embarrassment of leaving a 5 baht tip. -
