There is something tragi-comic at work here. It is as though a burglar has smashed his way into a house and then started belabouring the hapless occupants that they are not taking his barked commands very seriously.

Bang on the money, again, jayboy and the perfect analogy.

Funny, this type of thread used to get the junta huggers firing on all cylinders. Where are they now?

Everyone is a troublemaker except the Master Troublemaker himself. The trouble for him now is that the real people (voters) can see right through him like a sheet of glass.

He has played the confected outrage card too many times now for people to take any notice of him.

From an earlier report, I believe Mr. Abhisit suggested boycotting the meeting. Unbelievable - "yellow" trouble makers!

Given what shenanigans are going on, the grand hooha and Thailand will be laughed at.  Abhisit knows this, and to his credit, he did take to the loss to the gorgeous bombshell graciously.  He has some idea as to how an election should work.   What is happening now in Thailand is an insult to the intelligence and is not bearing up to scrutiny.  One Thai friend worries the future of Thailand will closely resemble Burma.

Yes, that doesn't surprise me but maybe your friend is less mai pen rai than the average Thai. What is worrying me now - having seen the absurd lengths that Prayuth is prepared to go to, in order to get his own way - is the possibility, if he were somehow to keep his botty in the big chair, of him doing something vindictive to all us good and true T-V posters who keep trying to say nice things about him but, alas, find it impossible . . . he could chuck us all out, especially if he keeps his Magnum-44 in his pocket.

"They say" 60 parties accepted the invite, ... out of 105! D*mn near 50% have refused the invite! Speaks volumes.

Oh dear they need a dose of attitude adjustment I think.

Just suppose there was this election.........and no one show up.

Well, that's rather what happened with the referendum on the constitution in my neck of the woods - no polling station so no one voted...

.....and when it's all said and done, we can get on with our usual independent and self-sufficient lives.

Other than die hard sycophants or the inbred elites, most of the country may need the rubber hose according to the "do gooders" running Thailand now.

As a more of a devil's advocate approach - I say:

Wipe the board clean of all the establishment circles - regardless of said political convictions.

As they seemingly are in the same boat anyway. Traditional dinosaurs of a traditional patronage.

Do away with the lot.

A fresh start with new faces and mindsets.

Also, he said, their participation in the event could be seen as a move to legitimise Prayut’s plan to retain power, which is why they have rejected the invitation.

He said that instead of sorting out the issues that led to the 2014 coup, the coup makers are now seeking to maintain their political power. Political parties are also feeling victimised, as the junta leader is manifesting his political ambitions, while holding the reins of the election, he said.

Seems right. Many feel that the current leadership rightfully has no authority since they stole power and were not elected. Now that the pressure has mounted, both domestic and international, to a point they feel they have to hold an election they are setting rules that will allow them to appear to hold an election but it will have predetermined results. So the statement being made by these parties seems to be valid.

And that is the reason why they do not want any foreign election controllers. They really think they can do what they want and the foreign countries will not notice it. Typical Thai thinking, the rest of the world is stupid compared to the Thais.

Well...they are when they happen to be in Thailand.

The Thai's have seen 'em ripe for the picking since the 1960's.

Who is to gainsay them?

Ps:where is Robblok?a sort of "Kilroy was here.."
