No breakthrough in U.S. shutdown talks, Pelosi plans new legislation

An interesting side effect of the partial government shutdown: How Farmers Are Impacted by the Federal Government Shutdown https://www.farmaid.org/blog/how-farmers-are-impacted-by-the-federal-government-shutdown/

  • USDA Farm Service Agency county offices are now closed and will not reopen until normal government operations resume. That means farmers making loan applications through FSA offices are in limbo, and farmers waiting for direct payments, market assistance loans, market facilitation payments and disaster assistance program payments, particularly in a time of farm crisis, are being left high and dry.
  • Farmers awaiting payments to offset the Trump administration’s trade wars will have to wait until after the shutdown to receive aid;
  • Livestock and commodity reports, including economic projections that farmers rely on to make business decisions on a daily basis, are no longer being published;
  • Investigations of fraudulent and anti-competitive activities by meat and poultry processors are suspended;
  • USDA is no longer able to issue new loans for rural development or grants for housing, community facilities and utility companies and small rural businesses, and
  • Grants and payments are no longer being processed for agricultural research and education and extension projects.
  • delay the USDA’s implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill that will hamper the appropriations process for funding that will get critical funding to dozens of farm bill programs that support farmers, rural communities, local and regional food systems
  • delay paying farmers $1.65 for each bushel of soybeans to lessen the impact of Trump's tariff war with China https://newschannel20.com/news/local/government-shutdown-affecting-payments-for-local-farmers

Trump really has little understanding (or just uncaring?) of the impact of his shutdown if it is prolonged.

the senate bill did not include funding

Say, you're right.

The Republican Senators stripped out the wall funding because McConnell thought Trump would sign the continuing funding bill! Which he didn't after hearing from Hannity and Limbaugh.

Go figure. But it's all the Democrat's fault?

And since farmers are some of the biggest employers of illegal immigrants, I'm sure they are now doubly thrilled.

The Dems in Thailand are REPUBLICANS in America. Have you not figured that out yet? What the Dems have done here is what the republicans dream of doing in the US. That gleam in their eye might make it sooner than you think.

Do you really believe this crap you write?

  Honestly both dems are the same it is so obvious to those of us not American.

  The American dems use illegal immgration to only booster future voting base. They care less what happens to the American structure of their society.

  Dems are a real threat to America not one man Trump.

  They dems in America pursue  Trump like the dems in Thailand pursue Thaksin Every thing wrong in America now is blamed on Trumpd by the dems same as the dems in Thailand blame Thaksin.

  Dems are the curse of American politics but of course as we know watching Thailands politics develop does not mean they will not get their way and destroy America and be in charge of a failed nation.

Of course. The Democratic party of Thailand is the wealthy, connected, pro business party. They are and always have been the "Republicans" of Thailand.

As for your other breathless ranting .... take  a few deep breaths, relax. Perhaps you have an emotional support animal nearby ... waterbuffalos make fine house pets BTW. :thumbsup:

Stay Calm, no one cares. NCAA Championship game is up in 12, huffing and puffing Donnie can wait. It does look like he has boxed himself into a corner though. Wasn't Mexico supposed to pay for this wall? What about that Go Fund Me campaign?! Are they close yet? Why don't you make a donation LLsak?! Quit with the mewling & gnashing of teeth and pony up.

They are paying more with his newly re negotiated NAFTA deal. Mexico in fact is paying. So I can’t see why he can’t get the funds so he can keep his election promise?

Because you don't fully comprehend how NAFTAv2 works.  If and when it's ratified, it will result in some savings to trading partners, which are private businesses in the United States and Mexico.  No extra money is being "made" by the government because the government does not own any assets or commodities that it can trade.

Even if a trade deal somehow created a revenue stream for the government, that money would still go into the treasury and it would then be up to the House to decide how to spend it.  Please note that the newly elected House made no such election promise to build a wall along the southern border.

It was plainly stupid for Trump to make a promise that requires a cooperative legislature to deliver.

Trump shouldve called it a fence. Seems Schumer likes fences  to vote for it in 2006 but wall is just too immoral.

fences are just more neighborly.????

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Fence_Act_of_2006

This is the best part of that wiki link:

A report in May 2008 by the Congressional Research Service found "strong indication" that illegal border-crossers had simply found new routes. A 2017 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, citing U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, found that from fiscal year 2010 through fiscal year 2015, the U.S.-Mexico border fence had been breached 9,287 times, at an average cost of $784 per breach to repair.

[snip]

The fence is routinely climbed or otherwise circumvented.

Do we really need a better reason for not building more fences?

I wasn't aware that Schumer voted for a nearly 2000 mile long fence. Could you please provide a link to prove that?

What amazes me is the money he wants is not that much compared to other things get funded.

  Why not just give him the money and move on?

   Grow up and leave the sand box. If the wall is ineffective time will tell. If it is effective time will tell also.

  Just do it and move on as I said. Mature a little.

 If it is the principle of the thing then I call hum bug since when did the dems have principle.

Is that how you manage your personal finances too?

You don’t need time to tell that it would be money thrown away.
