Thai Nationality when married to a Thai and have children

Featured Replies

I heard through a reliable friend that in addition to the ruse of being married and having a work permit for three years, and earning 40K a month, there is also a pathway whereby if you are married, have a work permit for at least a year and have a child with Thai Nationality, you can apply for a Thai Passport. Anyone heard about this?

It is a long and difficult process that takes 5 years or more.  There are various factors, such has having children, having paid taxes in Thailand, earning enough money (more than 100k per month is the minimum figure I have heard), being able to pass a written and oral test in the Thai language, your age, etc.

The number of new citizens that are accepted every year is limited to 100 people, but the requirements are so strict that there are usually about 10 new Thai citizens accepted yearly.

If you're a bloke, it's BS.

If you're a woman, it's even quicker, no income or work permit required.

I thought that was 100 people from each nationality.

^ True.  I was exaggerating as a polite way to tell him that he probably has no chance of becoming a Thai citizen.
