As a follow on to my previous Topic about MMORPG's and Thaivisa.com I have created this new thread and I've added some titles to the list of possible MMORPG's that might be of interest to the gamer community within ThaiVisa.com.

Take a look over the list and vote for the game you would be most interested in playing with a ThaiVisa.com Clan/Guild. As the majority of players seem to be playing WoW already, i've also included this as an option for those who would prefer to stay on WoW.

Some of the games are not yet released and some are already released, i've included below a list of the games along with a link and their status/release date to help you all decide.

Lord Of The Rings Online

Release Date: Beta Testing (est. release 04/24/07)

URL: http://lotro.turbine.com/

Vangard: Saga Of Heros

Release Date: Released (Live)

URL: http://www.vanguardsoh.com

Age of Conan

Release Date: Development (est. release 10/30/07)

URL: http://www.ageofconan.com

Dungeons & Dragons Online

Release Date: Released (Live)

URL: http://www.ddo.com

World of Warcraft

Release Date: Released (Live)

URL: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com

If we get enough interest then we can create a guild based on the majorities decision and hopefully get an active guild up and running. I think to make this worth while we would need somewhere around 8-10 players who can commit to a game title. It doesn't really matter on what times you can play as we can arrange suitable times for raids etc on a per raid basis.

/Edit: I'll pin this for a week so it doesn't get lost

I'd be too casual a gamer as I only play (WOW) at the the weekend

Been reading the previews of LOTR though and it does look very promising

Vanguard I would not touch as it has the dreaded corpse run from the old EQ days, and associated big XP hit. Used to hate that in EQ as it is NOT FUN!

Im a WoW man at present and have been for a few months, having left GuildWars.

Intresingly are there any TVers that are beta testing LOTRO??? id be very interested to hear your thoughts

I find it odd that you didn't include the most popular MMORG .. everquest or everquest2

Guess thats covered under 'Other (please specify)'

Didnt get much feedback on players on EQ or EQ2, but its something to consider.

I played them both, the first game was a classic but its a little dated now. EQ2 is good, but its an old game now (older than WoW - came out just before) Also some of the servers have been merged, so there could be a server population problem. Lots of patches/added-extras in EQ2.

I think the focus is looking more like WoW or Lord of the Rings...

Lord of the Rings has just entered public beta, so if you have a File Planet subscriber in Europe you can get a key.

Also I'm hearing good reviews from Vangaurd as opposed to the bad press it got around release.

LOTR Online might be difficult to play over here - we may have activitation/billing problems. Hope I am mistaken as I want to try this one. The Oceania version will be the one that's in the shops here and will need a US or Australia c/card

Got this from one of the forums:

"For each region where the game is available, Turbine partners with a publisher who handles production and distribution of the packaged product as well as marketing support. In some regions we also partner with a service operator who will host and manage the service, including billing, customer service, and community.

In North America and Oceania, Turbine is the service operator. We work with two publishers to support our service – Midway in the US and Codemasters in Oceania. In Europe, Codemasters is both the publisher and the service operator.

What this means is that the version of the game you can play is determined by the service operator that supports your region. Since the service operators maintain completely separate billing, hosting, and support systems it is not possible to allow players to access both services – they’re just not compatible with each other.

There are a variety of differences between the EU and NA versions of the game and service. In order to provide the best possible experience to our EU players (including local language game content and customer service) both Codemasters and Turbine have implemented blocking rules to prevent players from activating keys from outside their home region. Specifically, players must register on the service for their region and only client software and keys purchased in that region will work. This applies to both Pre-order programs as well as the final retail game.

If you are a European player and purchase the game from a retailer based in North America you will not be able to activate your Product Key on the Turbine billing system. The reverse is also true: Copies of LOTRO intended for the European market cannot be registered with Codemasters from a country outside of the territories they serve."

I'll let you know Ian, i've got an invite to the beta sent to me by a friend in the UK, so if i can get on the beta i'll give you a report.

Theres always going to be ways around their 'restrictions' i remember WoW imposing similar restrictions at release but in the end i was able to pay with a Thai credit card (and still do) working off an Australian copy playing on the US servers.

Worst case scenario you will have to get someone in the UK/US to pay your subs for you.. unless... unless... LotRO will be the first international MMORPG to open a Asia based servers?

Just got into WoW in the last few weeks. I downloaded a 10 day trial copy free of charge off of fileplanet and upgraded it online for 20$ including one month game play (not a bad deal I thought).

Its my first time out in WoW but really enjoying it. I opted for Alliance, playing on Nagrand on the Oceanic servers. So can be found in and around Auberdine most nights.

Well looks like they have decided IP Blocking was a bad idea, so with a digital download version hopefully available we will be able to play LOTRO

Offical Statement

Throughout the Alpha and Beta phases of development, we have worked hard to satisfy the enthusiastic community that has risen up in support of LOTRO. We listened to and incorporated your ideas many times throughout development and our game is now stronger for it. As we prepare for launch we wanted to let you know that your feedback still matters. We have been listening and will continue to do so in the future.

Recently, some players expressed their concern about our plans to implement IP blocking. After listening to our fans, we have decided to remove IP blocking in North America.

However, we strongly encourage players to purchase and play the game in their region to receive the best game experience, connectivity and local customer support. Please note that regional clients are only operable with their respective regional services.

In closing, we would like to thank the players for your feedback. Your honest input has been invaluable to us throughout development. We are always listening to your feedback.

Enjoy Middle-earth!
