GONE TO GROUND Fugitive speedboat killer Jack Shepherd ‘is hiding from justice in remote village in Thailand’

Looking at the trial reporting, the only evidence about her driving seem to have come from Shepherd, including the claims that she insisted on driving and that she was going full throttle. Obviously she's not there to dispute his claims and since it serves his interests to place her at the helm, I'm just not convinced he's a trustworthy witness.
According to report the boat was not in good order prior to the accident, the steering had a problem.

Wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb, would he?

Probably another example of indepth Thai police work.

Nice unrelated Thai bash.  You can never resist getting one in can you.

There is no arrest warrant out for him in Thailand.  He fled justice in the UK.  What has that got to do with the Thai police?

If he is in Thailand ,he will not be able last long he has a ten thousand pounds bounty on head 40000 baht for a photo and a location ,  if this goes viral with the locals over face book he will not last the week.           Happy hunting

He's probably not hiding in a remote village, but Pattaya like the rest of them so he can get laid and eat British food.

I'd say those items are what *most* people think on a daily basis.

Regarding OP I've been smashed out of my wits relinquishing control of my boat to more sober people, even less experienced ones, as I think it's "better" seamanship than trying to operate a vehicle while impaired. Lifejackets of course worn and safety regs for the most part adhered to etc; Got boarded one time by maritime patrol, checking the condition of the "skipper" when doing that, as the enforcers of the law saw that the boat was being handled erratically (not so calm waters and not so experienced skipper on a lake), I was personally taking a snooze in the kabooze and the driver wouldn't dare to wake me up, so went with the GPS a couple of hours along the lake. Well the boarding party made us all blow into the whistle, and 0.00% alcohol from the boat operator, (not gonna disclose mine, but several times over the limit). This boat type did not require licenses of any sort, even 100bhp x2 engines... End result was, that the law escorted us to nearest port to ensure safety for everyone. I asked of the liability if there was an accident, and surely they answered: it would be biased against the owner when relinquishing control to any other party.

Is this a clue to where he might have been? It was posted along with the article in a paper in the UK

So, who knows where this is?

Again, I haven't see anything saying the courts accepted it. Several news reports seem to accept it, I just can't see where they're getting that from - other than from Shepherd's words at trial.

Here's some reporting from the trial itself including verbatim quotes from Shepherd:

Obviously she's not there to dispute his claims and since it serves his interests to place her at the helm, I'm just not convinced he's a trustworthy witness.

It was in a U.K Court , they would have checked evidence and circumstances and the prosecution would have questioned him about it and they seemed satisfied that what he said was true

The same U.K Court that found him guilty of manslaughter, after the cases of the defense and prosecution were both put forward !

According to the Daily Mail, it was Jack Shepherd who was driving the boat when it hit the log, and it is the young lady who is heard shouting; “You’re driving too fast.”

She was not the first woman to jump aboard. The boat was part of his seduction technique, along with giving the young ladies plenty of alcohol.

The police had warned him twice before about his speeding; the life jackets were not easily accessible in an emergency; the boat was poorly maintained. It was an accident waiting to happen; and it did, with tragic consequences for one poor young lady.

Anyway, the Daily Mail is offering a reward of £25,000 for his capture and return to justice before the English courts. Full details, including information about his past, are here:

Interesting the Daily  Mail only offer reward to UK residents

If they really want to get him it should be open to all Nationally

Yes interesting point. Netease ????

The DM offer was originally published on 2nd January, and so before the claim about his being in Thailand was made.

I guess they haven’t noticed that now he might be in Thailand, it’s more likely that someone who is not a British resident will be the one to spot him!

Point 6 says: “The Daily Mail may vary these terms and conditions if it is reasonable or necessary to do so.”

The DM can well afford £25,000. I don’t think anyone would object if a Thai hands him in and claims the reward, because “he’s not a British resident, goddamit!”

Anyway, for completeness, this is the link to 2nd January article:

The link that you provided does not state that Jack was driving the boat when it crashed

Hi Max,

Thanks for taking the trouble to read my post.

The article does say:

“As Shepherd, who’d been warned for speeding at least twice by police in previous weeks, drunkenly careered down the river, Charlotte, a 24-year-old business consultant, was heard exclaiming: ‘Oh my God, you’re going so fast!’

‘Shortly before midnight, the boat hit a submerged log and capsized near Wandsworth Bridge.

‘Shepherd was found clinging to its hull, calling ‘Help me!’ (not, it was observed in court, ‘Help us!’). He was also unable to give rescuers his companion’s name.

‘Charlotte was eventually plucked from the freezing water but she never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead in hospital.”

My reading of the article is that Shepherd was driving the boat at all times. I agree that that is an assumption, but not an unreasonable one, and that the article does not include the words “... the [boat driven by Shepherd] hit a submerged log....” Maybe the DM journalist was careful to word the sentence in that way.

Sadly she was pulled “from the freezing water but never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead in hospital.” If he swore on the Bible that he wasn’t the one driving the boat, Charlotte wasn’t in a position to contradict him. Even if she had been, maybe some people would still prefer to believe him rather than her.

He'll surface at sometime, he's got to be making money somehow or be in the company of someone who doesn't know his history. Best thing Thai police can do is put this story out in the media and flush him out.

Yes "But after he handed her the wheel on their return journey, the boat hit a log and capsized, pitching the pair into the cold water of the River Thames."

But buoyancy aids were not used. It's reckless.

the gut seems to be perfectly qualified to captain a boat in thailand

Why is it that thailand is a magnet for foreign fugitives all over ?

Tells a lot about the integrity of law enforcement and corruption here. I don’t hear such thing about other south East Asian countries though Cambodia is trailing behind.

Hiding in a remote village, bit stupid if he is, because no way can a farang hide in a remote village.

I doubt that many Thais would be aware of him so he would be safe in that respect. Until seeing this I had never heard of him.

Not seen the "Post" for a few days so I do not know how much publicity it has had there. Or whether the Thai media have made anything of it. Possibly the BIB are out and about nailing his photo to every tree near a remote village but I doubt it.

Well said!!!!

Sanemax, really in all honesty where are you going with this. You’ve hijacked the OP from the very first comment and continue to do so. It’s not about who drove or who didn’t drive. It’s about a fugitive possibly hiding out in rural Thailand. He’s guilty and knew he was guilty that’s why he fled. That why he kept it hidden from his wife who he married 2 weeks after killing the girl. He’s also fled from the charge of glassing a barman.
If your so bent on proving he was given a stiff sentence address the U.K. court of law and the authorities who are still paying his legal aid.

Well, if you're a fugitive and can choose between 5 countries in SE-Asia , Thailand is the winner for many, better infrastructure, better food, cheap rent, a foreign crowd you can hide in  etc.

Some off topic posts about whether who was driving the boat have been removed, more will be removed as they come up.

This is not a re-trial on this case, it is about the fugitive hiding from justice in a remote village in Thailand.
