Five police officers shot in Houston

(Reuters) - Five Houston police officers were shot on Monday as they attempted to serve a warrant, according to officials and local media.

Their conditions were not immediately disclosed. The site of the shooting was still an active crime scene, Houston police said in a message on Twitter, warning people to avoid the area.

A suspect in the shooting was down, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a message on Twitter.

The policemen were shot as officers from the Houston narcotics division served a warrant, the Houston Chronicle reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

One of the officers was airlifted to a hospital, Houston Police Officers' Union president Joe Gamaldi said in a separate tweet.

Four officers who were shot were also hospitalized, Houston police said in a message on Twitter.

Multiple shootings in the US are now predictable daily news.

Check out Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and so forth. Where is the next shooting to take place based on prediction?

Sad news indeed, but nary a peep from rights advocates. The "Blue" doesn't count as being worthy of notice by some.

No longer news, like road fatalities in Thailand.

As tragic as it is: you might see the difference, if you think about most shooting victims as "civillians", whereas policeman...well...it's kind of their job, to be in life- threatening situations!

US cops are so quick to draw their weapons and they kill so many innocent unarmed people it's kinda difficult to feel sorry when some of them get shot....karma if you like.

Yes, sad to see you have to make that comparison.

Unfortunately, a viable comparison.

Undercover police were there on a drug warrant due to neighborhood complaints of drugs being sold and the news stated the location was dealing in black tar heroin.  The occupants opened fire, retreated and then came out firing again.  Names of police not being released as they are undercover officers.  Two of the house occupants were killed in the incident.  No details yet released about those inside the house.  House is in a rough part of town.

The post is not about lawless countries. It’s about a supposedly world leading country. These mass shooting continue on a regular basis. Hopefully the injured make a speedy full recovery.

Not wishing to tempt fate but it seems like a remarkably quiet year on the school shooting front. I hope it is the start of a long term trend.
