A video on the Pattaya News site showed the aftermath to an accident that left a foreign motorcyclist in a serious condition in hospital in Pattaya.

Police were alerted by Isuzu driver Saichon Khanthawong, 54, who said that the motorcycle hit him in the rear as he was turning into Makro on Sukhumvit road.

He had been going in the direction of Chonburi and said he had been indicating the turn for some distance.

An unidentified black man was treated by Sawang Boriboon foundation medics at the scene then taken to Bang Lamung Hospital. It happened on Thursday around 9.30 pm.

The foreigner had a broken left arm and facial lacerations.

The white Isuzu showed signs of impact to the rear.

The foreigner was riding a red Yamaha Fino with Rayong plates.

so the indicator gave him right of way to move left across three lane of the road, maybe he should have looked first to make sure it was clear

Thais seem to believe that when you put on your indicator it gives you carte blanche to swing across the road blithely ignoring all other traffic who will graciously move out of your way. Then of course there are the other 50% who turn on their indicator half way through their turn maneuver.

If he was turning left into Makro he should have been in the extreme left lane but it looks from the video the impact point would seem to be in the second lane

Thai style-turn left from the second or third lane without indicating. If you don't want to die, you have to drive defensively.

Which includes to avoid as much as possible this road being bloody dangerous for two wheelers. Not to speak of the night time.

Unfortunately many scooter/bike drives feel the need for speed on such a road. DON'T.

...which is right where he would have been having just made the u-turn from Pattaya that another car is making in the picture in the OP.

On how many roads it is possible to drive even 100m on the extreme left lane???????? That lane is 99.9% used as a (temporarely) parking lane. So yes it is normal that he used the second lane.

If i use my left blinker for indicating i wanna make a left turn into a soi or parkingspot and a stupid motorbike still wanna get between me and the parkingspot, when i drive in front of him, he have the option to hit the car or take over on the right because i will make the turn. Ask the biker 2y ago in Krabi.

And it was definitely not possible that the biker was drunk or using his mobile or whatever. I have seen already many foreigners who like the "thai moron" style. Specialy on their motorbikes! Starting with never wear a helmet and drive with flip flops.

Nope never in Thailand.

People on TVF often scorn the BIB for not doing any work, etc.  How many missed the one in the video break out in profuse perspiration when he helped for about 2 seconds to move the motorbike aside?  As if that was not enough, he actually handed what appeared to be keys to somebody in the "transporting vehicle" the motorcyclist was in thus expending more energy.  I did note that his attempt to assist moving the 'bike was done with hesitation and very awkwardly as if he knew not what to do.  Must have gone back to his a/c office totally exhausted to recuperate after exerting so much energy.

'nuf sed.

Refreshing to see #14 posts in and no entity is blaming the dark skinned foreigner for a change.

Lets put that right. The picture clearly shows the impact to be on the right rear of the pickup, not the left side. The motorcyclist, irrespective of colour. must have been in the same lane as the pickup, whichever one that was. It is always the responsibility of the following vehicle to watch out for the vehicle in front in case the driver does something without warning, e.g. crash into another vehicle. Racist reporting may be accurate but it's not nice.

That u turn should be moved. People rush across the short distance of the u turn to get into Makro across very fast traffic lane. Accident waiting to happen.

There is a white line on the exit from the u turn that goes beyond the Makro entrance. Anyone who is crossing that line is committing a traffic offence. I use that u turn a lot on my way to Lotus from East Pattaya and I see that happening so many times. Setting up a police check at that spot, by traffic cops or camera, would make a tidy sum. Maybe that's what happened here, but unclear as the collision was on the r/h rear of the pick-up.

After many years in Thailand I wouldn't give motorcyclists the benefit of any doubt whatsoever when they are involved in a prang.

If he would've been riding on the footpath this probably wouldn't have happened!?????????
