BANGKOK, 1st February 2019 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has reported on his administration’s performance in its fourth year in accordance with the national strategy.

The PM made the statement at the Santhi Maitri Building of Government House, reviewing his administration’s performance from September 12th, 2017 to September 12th, 2018. He began by detailing Thailand’s situation before the administration came to power and its initial work, including measures to maintain peace and order, quash unrest, and stimulate the economy.

Gen Prayut highlighted peace efforts in the restive South and across the country. He also mentioned efforts to remove red flags imposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding aviation safety standards in Thailand and the European Commission regarding illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. During his administration’s term, Thailand was also upgraded in the United States’ Trafficking in Persons Report from Tier 3 to Tier 2, reflecting state efforts to combat people smuggling and illegal labor.

On the economic front, Gen Prayut said that contrary to rumors, Thailand has seen continuous growth in every sector, achieving 4.2% GDP growth in 2018 from 2014. In 2019, the government has forecast 7.3% growth in exports.

Last year, the tourism sector saw total revenue of more than three trillion baht, from 1.8 trillion in 2013. Inflation affecting the Thai baht has remained low, while the debt to GDP rate has held at 41.7%, well below the 60% ceiling deemed sustainable.

Thailand’s ranking in economic and business freedom assessments has risen 10 places, reflecting the strength of the Thai economy. The premier expects the economy to strengthen further in the next two years.

In terms of transportation and logistics, the government has initiated two high-speed railway projects, seven dual-track railways, and connectivity between three international airports.

Gen Prayut also sought to address the issue of informal debt and loan sharks, bringing 335,000 accounts worth a combined 61 billion baht under the control of formal financial institutions. This has led to the return of 25,000 rai of property to debtors. A further 300,000 rai of public property has been allocated to the needy for occupational purposes.

Furthermore, the government has also initiated the family doctor program, which reportedly resulted in a significant reduction in waiting times at major hospitals.

a military general's thinking; subjugate, totalinarianism; precisely why we don't want him going forward

I thought cleaning up the beaches, footpaths, drought management, the taxi industry was a step in the right direction, pity about the out comes.

He reports and predicts some pretty rosy numbers; "the government has forecast 7.3% growth in exports". Perhaps China is going to drastically increase its durian orders and the farmers of Thailand are going to magically and rapidly increase their production. And of course TAT supported all of the tourism statistics.

How convenient to paint such a gloryful picture only weeks ahead of the "planned" election.

Lucky for him that he didn't have a Nancy to block him like the other great world leader who will give his 'state of the nation' address in a few days.

Two great, honest, popular, respected leaders speaking to their nations in less than a week. One who wants to return happiness to the people, the other who wants to make a certain country great again.

Too much entertainment in a one week period !

The rails are not his idea baby. Most of all the ideas are from previous administrations and if not careful this set up is bound to fail in some areas and hard..

As for the economy with the low baht, it is going to hurt exports and domestic sales. He can toot his horn all he wants, but to you Jerks, just go ahead and try to remove him. He's not going.

I check my performance by looking to see if her toes are curling up and the neighbors want to know what all the screaming is about.

But, you know, I am not obsessed with buying submarines and tanks with long barrels.

Many of the things he has pointed to run themselves.  The problem is that for the average Thai there is not much hope or excitement.  The EEC means everything to the military and nothing to the average Somchai.

Do the Japanese need the gernal's help in building vehicles ?  Do the wafer fabs needs his help ?  Do the ships leaving ports filled with rice need his help ?  Professional foreigners and retirees are leaving Thailand.  That is one indication that things are not all that wonderful.

Who will review his performance? the press - no not allowed, here is a wild idea - have an election, free and democratic, just like the last one that he didn't like the result off! the outcome of next election will give him his performance rating ????

But conveniently forgets to mention that the GDP forecast by some experts will drop to 3.5% in 2019.

The Pinocchio factor also comes into play with his claim that exports will rise by 7.3% when other more reliable sources claim that exports will rise by only 3.9%.

Perhaps he's expecting a devaluation of the baht after the election when all his cronies have topped up their offshore bank accounts.

The EEC means everything to the military and nothing to the average Somchai.

  1. Prayut used Article 44 to force EEC development without consultation or approval of local governments, bypassed environmental impact assessments,
  2. got the Japanese to 100% finance the initial startup without any financial investment by the Prayut government for supporting infrastructure including housing, healthcare, education, etc.
  3. will deprive local agricultural industry of sufficient water for sustained farming
  4. make no accommodations or plans for to-be unemployed farmers
  5. and (not finally) can't provide the 30,000 skilled Thai workers that Japan says is necessary to operate the EEC

The EEC location I believe was chosen by the region being largely pro-PTP according to the 2011 election results. Thus, the EEC location was more likely politically motivated to attract the local electorate towards a pro-military government and establish a lasting legacy for Prayut. The EEC was essentially intended as an economic "gift" to the region for political purposes. If its success should generate wealth for pro-military leaders, all the better.

And if they were ever called upon to defend the country against a determined enemy that would be a gigantic failure too !

1. lottery tickets down to 80bts in some places.

2. Restrictions on alcohol selling times.

3. No seating on the beaches on Wednesdays.

4. No smoking on the beaches in some places.

5 More dressing up in traditional dress.

6. Government lottery still very popular.

7. Economy booming ( whatever that means).

8. Tourist numbers keep rising ( maths is not my strong point but please tell me where they are hiding).

9. Anyone help me out now I seem to be stuck even if you believe the great achievements mentioned, there is more to this Governing lark than meets the eye, in the military people do as they are told.
