The LA band delivered an enthusiastic, breathless history of their biggest hits - from This Love to Girls Like You - but unlike the copious pyrotechnics, their set failed to catch fire.

They came closest with a low-key rendition of the ballad She Will Be Loved, performed in the middle of the crowd, as Chinese lanterns rose into the Atlanta skyline.

As the song reached its climax, the lanterns revealed themselves to be drones - flying in formation to spell out the phrase "one love".

Behind singer Adam Levine, one couple wrapped their arms around each other and swayed, apparently oblivious to the fact they were being watched by millions.

Matched the game - both boring as heck.

A US friend of mine tried to compare the 5 hour stop/start/talk a lot on and off the radio/change teams regularly/..with the 90 minutes almost non-stop Man City vs Arsenal match.

Being a Brit I have always enjoyed american football and always watch the Super bowl game either in LOS my some of my US mates or in UK if Im there. I enjoyed both the game (albeit low scoring but still interesting to see the tactics employed) and (maybe am biased as I like Maroon 5) I thought they done a good job of it, no Levine did not whip his cock out (aka Janet Jackson's famous get her tit out in an otherwise crap half time show with Timberlake) or Beyonce's controversial Black Fist salute from a few years ago, no maroon 5 done what they was paid to do sing without giving us any of their personal opinions

Edelman was 100% MVP Jewish or not (don't come into it for me) neutral in the game as I have always followed the Steelers and Raiders and Mighty Man Utd lol

The game was dull, and the halftime show, was muddled and uninteresting. What the Hell was Spongebob doing in there!

I'm pretty sure the NFL chose Maroon 5 since they were the most vanilla, uncontroversial act they could find.

Not a wardrobe malfunction in sight LOL

If there is one thing Americans have not learned yet, it is that bigger is not always better. Always trying to make things more grand, fatter, larger, more monumental. As if all of that bluster is supposed to impress us, somehow? I think not. I think the need to make things more monumental, is somehow a symbol of how far America is not going in the right direction, and just how great America is not, and will not become again.

I say all this as an American, who has the good fortune to witness the historic downfall of an empire, from a distance, thankfully.
