Army chief dismisses coup rumour, but again says “don’t cross the line”

 

 

Thailand’s Army Commander-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong today ruled out the possibility of a coup d’état , saying that unfounded reports of a coup were spread by “the same old group of people” and he asked the public not to fall prey to fake news on social media.

 

General Apirat said that sightings of tanks on the streets was used by those with ill-intent to spread false rumours. Confirming the army’s political neutrality, and that they would always be on the side of the people, he added “The truth is there is nothing.  Everything is proceeding in accordance with the election timeline.”

 

Apparently referring to a known group of political elements he said “Do not cross the line. Everyone must play by the rules.”

I seem to recall reading similar statements in the month or so before the coup that led to the current government and perhaps the one before that.

 

It's hard to keep track these days, there's so many coups.

You have to wonder, are the Generals and Officers so incompetent they can't do their job without help, so they need more of them?

Thai army is the laughing stock of the military world. It has almost 2000 active generals and navy admirals, not including the countless thousands of retired generals who have their snouts in the trough. All generals have their own staff and house servants.(soldiers)

Unlikely any generals have seen combat as there have been no conflicts for decades. Their last 'battle'was basically a skirmish with Laos in the 1980s which little Laos won.

Considering the fact that their idea of political neutrality is choosing the junta (choosing anything else would be taking sides), I'm sure, when the good people go to vote, they army boys will stick to the side of the people like armed leeches, just to assure everyone knows what box to tick.

The sightings of tanks on the street was a well timed exercise to let the "people" know who are the masters

since the last coop I cannot remember seeing any tanks on the streets, funny how a few weeks before the next election they should be out and about to remind people what a tank looks like!
