It's bizarre that Trump would propose a moat roughly 1500 miles long filled with snakes and alligators. It's just sad that there are people who believe in it.

Anyway, why would it even be necessary? As Trump said, the wall he's building is "impenetrable."

I detest Trump for a variety of reasons, and now he's given me one more. Despite the grave misgivings I, and many, many more, had going into this WC ( ICE, the visa issues, a top referee turned away, the treatment of the Iranian team etc.) the WC was turning into a great success, bringing people from all over the world together, including lots of Americans, many of who seemed to develop an interest in, and an enjoyment of, the beautiful game. So what if Trump called? FIFA could have refused to take the call or it could have said no. You don't know what went on behind the scenes with Portugal. Ronaldo's offence was far more serious than Baloguns, and the only reason 1 game was served was because the appeal was late in being filed and there were 3 games that applied. It is hypocrisy to pick one event and not the other. The reality is that the Football federations are corrupt. This is a business, not a charity. FIFA will do whatever needs to be done to maximize profit. How quickly the allegations of bribery and payoffs that marred the selection of the last WC site have been forgotten. World Cup and Olympics are all about making money for private business interests, not sport.
