The title says it all. Ill be leaving Thailand soon after 7 years (2 of those being on an overstay) and i was wondering if anyone could give me an advice of what is the best nearby country that i could go that is similar to Thailand in term of LGBT acceptance, etc. (Nightlife is a + also but not a necessity). Right now i am thinking of:

- Some part of China

- Indonesia

- Vietnam

These are basically my top 3. Any advices anyone?

If you're serious, why not choose a place you can easily be legal from now on?

Indonesia? Forget it. Visa issues and notoriously anti-gay. 

Vietnam. Visa possible. I suppose Ho Chi Minh City would be the gayest place.

Cambodia. Long term visa very easy. Phnom Penh.

It's mostly not that bad and I wouldn't throw Bali out of bed. But I'm suggesting such a person consider his legal status more next time, and Indonesia would not be practical for most. 

One of the thing that i enjoy the most about Thailand is, while im not looking gay at all and most people think im straight, i can openly tell to whoever ask me if i have a girlfriend that i am gay and it doesnt pose a problem at all. Im not actively telling people but if someone ask me i tell them the truth. Thats something that ill definitely miss of Thailand but if i can find something similar somewhere else then that would be great. Ive heard great feedback about Vietnam, Indonesia (specifically Bali) and even some part of China. 

I did visit Phnom Penh in 2014 (Ironically for my last visa run) and it was good. Ive enjoyed my time there but i hardly can see myself living there. 

Even though its far, Philippines might also be a possibility that im looking for. 

Where did you guys travel before? Did you had any favorite places?

Consider visiting again:  PP has changed enormously since 2014.  

Phillipines I don't think so and yes I've been.

For me LGBT acceptance is basically not having to hide who you are. Im not the kind of guy that look or act gay and i dont shout it out to everyone but if someone ask me then ill just tell the truth. But i would, preferably, like to stay somewhere where they i wont be hanged for expressing who i am lol. 

While i really enjoyed the place where i was in Phnom Penh (it was a backpackers place with a rooftop with pool table, 1$ draft beer, etc... i dont remember the name) and the local were very friendly along with the foreigners staying there, i just found the place dirty. I dont know how to say and i dont want to disrespect the country but i just found it dirty. Ill give it a chance and visit it again to see how things changed though. 

 

If you can manage the Visa situation I heard Taipei.

Don't know about immigration but Mexico City is certainly gay friendly. Lot's to see and do. However, air quality was not good (some of the time) I was there in 2014.

What about Malaysia? Queen's English spoken by many, KL has a big nightlife, a flamboyant transgender was just telling us how they love Penang because it's so mellow yet KL is a great party place for them. 

We (US passports) get an automatic 3 month visa-free to start and flights are dirt cheap with AirAsia. 

Money goes far, not quite as cheap as Thailand but still cheap.

Excellent mass transit systems that Thailand can only dream about, far better air quality also.

Worth a look.

google philippines and LGBT community.  it is considered one of the most gay friendly nations in asia.  and it is a very inexpensive place to live.

Google shmoogle. When I was there the gay people seemed oppressed with a lot of internalized homophobia. Catholic guilt for days.

Bali is fine with LGBT.  Tons of friendly people in Bali.

It is 50% Hindu,   I would go there, since I do a lot there already.

 

China   like forget

Vietnam -  Good to Visit but a step. down.

BUT,  the visa is the thing.

 

Social Pedia is 6 months,  easy to renue, but you need to know people

 A Kitas is expensive $1500 / yr   and you need a purpose.

VISA on Arrival is 30 days Period.    Pay the $25 and you can renue for 60

Hard to do a business there.

 

Oh, Philipines,   if you like to party.

Speaks English etc. etc.

Yes, its even more of a dump now. A work permit is also needed to get a long-term visa in Cambodia now.

There are 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 12 month retirement (ER) VISAs.

No proof of funding required for the over 55s.
