Your question and the ensuing exchange seem to make my point. There are different answers, scenarios and views as how much leverage China actually got, the willingness to use it, and what circumstances may promote this. Same goes for consequences and results.

 

I would wager that it is less of a clear cut issue even when it comes to intelligence assessments and briefings.

 

If it was a simple as if-we-do-A, they'll-do-B, and-therefore-C, things would have been resolved by now.
