cyril sneer Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 All i've come across so far is foam toppers in Big C for 3000 baht, which is enough to buy a new mattress Is there any alternative methods? like something from a night market, or buying a sheet of foam etc. replacing the mattress isn't an option (and i've tried flipping it)
Popular Post Sheryl Posted March 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2019 3,000 baht foam toppers -- are you missing a zero there? Or else just looking at what are really mattress covers - these will not help much if at all. A decent foam topper doesn't come for under 10K They make a big difference, though. If you want cheaper you could try putting an inflatable air mattress on top of the mattress, those do come for around 1,000 (But makes having the other mattress rather pointless). I have one i take with me whenever traveling in Thailand because I find 95% of the beds in hotels here to be unbearably hard. Be sure to get one that comes with the manual pump. https://www.lazada.co.th/shop-camping-air-mattresses/ With the air mattress you can adjust to the degree of firmness you want. 3 1

Popular Post Moonlover Posted March 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2019 We bought quite a good topper at Robinsons for 6,000. It is serving its purpose, but they are no substitute for a good mattress, which you certainly won't get for 3,000 @cyril sneer If you really are unable to replace the mattress and you're in that bed for the long haul then look back at @Sheryl post again. There's some good advice there. 3
Popular Post Thomas J Posted March 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2019 I use to own a furniture and mattress store. Most likely the springs in the mattress have lost their resilience. Mattresses have a life of between 7 to 10 years depending on the quality of the mattress and the weight of the sleeper(s). Putting a topper on it will do nothing to improve the support. You need to buy a new mattress 7 3
cyril sneer Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 might splash out for the foam then, was just checking there wasn't a better alternative first not sure it's better to buy from big c/tesco or lazada though

I was assuming he meant it is too hard, which is true of almost all mattresses here even when brand new. For that, a foam topper is the answer. Mine is a Lady Americana, Queen sized it cost I think around 15K on sale (HomePro). 2
Popular Post balo Posted March 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2019 You can buy a new mattress at IKEA for under 4000 baht. Western standard , will save you money and give you a better sleep. Foam would be one step up from the floor 1 1

atyclb Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 i use a tatami mat on bed above matress covered by bedsheet. very comfortable. used to be on floor japanese style but i had to bring a bed in due to logistics
Lacessit Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Thais are used to hard mattresses, I've seen them sleeping soundly on bare floors. My solution with my GF was to buy a double bed topper to go on a king-size bed. That way we both sleep comfortably. Polyurethane foam tends to build up too much body heat. Reconstituted polyurethane ( the multi-coloured stuff ) is even worse, because it is too hard as well. A waste of money. The best mattress toppers are made from natural latex foam. I didn't get any change out of 15,000 baht when I bought mine. 1
Popular Post Mukdahanman Posted March 9, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 9, 2019 Saw a whole family in their home yesterday, all sleeping comfortably on the tiled floor - there was an empty bed right next to them. 1 4

Like the Thais, I am a real man, without the need to be cuddled in some giant pillow like some effete baby. Oh, oh, to think your folk charged the Maxims at Pozieres...and you, their descendant, is swaddled in comfort. I can hear the cries of anguish from the heroes sleeping eternally at Villers-Bretonneux. Toss away your creature comfort, honour your ancestors! I like a hard bed btw.

You may want to try Tesco/Big C to avoid wasting time if the Lazada item is not as advertised.

Masochism is not a forte of mine. Be my guest. Something ironic about being accused of decadence by the citizen of a country that specializes in manufacturing vehicles with the handling characteristics of marshmallows. 1

Try one of those stupid Teslas bucko...
chicowoodduck Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 The best solution for me has been to head to the local Buakhao market amd buy a cheap thick blanket cover and just sleep on that....easy, peasy....????
stud858 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 AliExpress has some options around the 1000 baht range For those wanting a decent bed. I think spending around 5k is enough for a strong well fabricated mattress. I recommend CNR centre Rd Sukhumvit for patts.
