i am from uk

i want to buy only 1 way ticket and after 30 days if i want to stay i plan on going out to laos then back again

if after that can i extend another 30 days if i exit thailand again , say to cambodia ?

my mates have allways gotten a one way ticket no problems but that maybe just pot luck.

i once went to board emerites flight and nearly not allowed on because the staff thought i didnt have visa for 30m days, they thought i was staying 31 days but after recounting the calender they seen it was booked for 30 days bang on so allowed me to fly.

or should i just get 60 day visa ?  though i do not know when i will want to return to uk, it all depend on boredness and work

You could buy a one way ticket but you could be asked for ticket out of the country within 30 days. A one way ticket to anywhere would be accepted for the the ticket out of the country.

Buy a throwaway ticket.

Skyscanner, choose 'thailand' as the 'from' and 'anywhere as the 'destination', then 'one way' and browse the dates for the cheapest flight out of the country.

If you get a Tourist visa you won’t need a return/onward flight.

If you travel without a visa, as you know, the airline might insist you have a return/onward flight.

I feel the need to mention  a peace of mind ticket option ! I have always  bought a very cheap  ticket to no where(before the 60 days is up) ever since I applied for my first METV. I remember my first  METV ,the embassy guy in LA asked if I had a ticket out with my one way ticket to Thailand. I held it back purposely to see if it was needed.

You will need an onward ticket as pretty much all airline check in counters will ask for it these days if commencing trip with no issued visa .

Easy enough buy an onward flight to malaysia for like £30 or simply get setv from embassy

Do take into account from next month new online visa system is in operation so no visa by mail and will require whatever evidence asked for during online visa procedure (bank funds proof probably) ... visa price also going up next month and if you not close to an embassy or consulate a disposable ticket and visa exempt 30 day entry suddenly quite cheap easy way start a vacation stay in Thailand .

I purchased a one-way ticket when I came here in 2016, but I also had a non-immigrant "O" visa based on marriage. The price wasn't much different than a round-trip ticket, but I didn't want to end up on an airline blacklist by not using the return flight.

buy a bus ticket to Laos online, buses  goes from Undon price around 300B

Airlines usually will not accept a bus ticket as constituting an onward flight out of Thailand (though most consulates will accept it as a valid substitute).

If you arrive at the airport in good time, you could try this:

  • Attempt to check in (you will probably be denied check in)
  • Ask to speak to the airline supervisor. Explain your itinerary, and say you are sure there will be no problem with Thai immigration. Offer to sign an indemnity form.
  • If unsuccessful, book a flight online while at the airport to meet the onward flight requirement. Ensure you have researched the best two options in advance so the process should be quick.

When requesting an exception to airline rules, based on signing an indemnity form, your appearance and general demeanour are very important. The airline supervisor is not going to take time to do extensive checking on your character and financial status, but will not let you through unless confident your signature on an indemnity form would be honoured. If you look affluent, well groomed and polite, my experience is that most airline supervisors do not want to say no.

Cant u just buy a refundable flight home, and then get it refunded? i have never done this but seems it would work. i suppose you could get the flight to anywhere too, just whatever was the cheapest flight out of the country.

Most refundable flights have a admin charge that greater than £28-£30 of cheapest flight to malaysia.

exception is usa which has legal clause of 24hr refunds on flight bookings .

Many embassies/consulates insist on seeing proof of an onward when applying for the visa.

All tourists are supposed to have an onward flight; with consular services checking visa applicants and airlines checking non visa holders.

As was stated above, the return is not much more expensive than the return normally.  e.g. I often use the QR website where you can book different flight classes, economy saver out, and a more flexible ticket back.

If one way, try looking at frequent flyer award tickets, if you have frequent flyer miles, they often give a more reasonable one way option.

He failed to mention that he was writing about the embassy on London.

It has not started in the states yet.

Vientiane and Kuala Lumpur have a online appointment system but not a online visa application yet.
